Taking a shot here. I came across an old thread about short radiators in channeled cars. A member, BigDaddy, showed some pictures of a short rad which looks like it will work in my application. Can't contact him. Wondering if anyone else found the source of the rad he describes in the post at the time. Any help appreciated. From the post:

"I mounted mine on the crossmember and my car was chopped 7inches and channeled 4 my radiator was 13x13 5 row and cooled the car fine... I was running a 63 vette 327 with dual quads and a nice cam

as you can see i mounted it on top and then cut the sides of the shell and ran a 13in fan! Ran stock grill guard on it... not sure why the pics came out distorted?"

In the old days you could take your rad to the rad shop and have it rebuilt with a shorter core. Now you will have to buy a new aluminum rad the right height.

Yeah, that aluminum stuff is not that user friendly.

There still are radiator shops around that can work with what you want. Just need to dig a little. Or learn a new skill.;)

These guys will build you one to your specs. https://www.cgj.com/ They sell their US made units on Ebay and build custom radiators for anything that uses a radiator. Aluminum or br***. Their aluminum radiator for a Flathead in a Model A running a 32 shell is about twice what the off shore ones are but I plan to have them build me one.

5 years ago I had 3 shops within a 15 mile radius of me. Nearest is now 50 miles and when I talk on the phone with them , they don't seem to grasp the idea of shortening a radiator. They talk about finding a new core the right size and the size of the tanks. Mr 48 chev made a good suggestion.

That is how you shorten a radiator. Install a new shorter core. If there is a way to saw a rad in half and put it together again I would like to know about it.

I bought a chopped radiator from Walker for my channeled coupe about 10 years ago -- maybe they still make them.

Took a mustang rad for my A to a local shop and told them 5 inches out and they did so and it has been working fine.. didn’t get all the details but I thought they reduced the height of the core? .. may be wrong... talked to walker and they didn’t think a rad of the height I needed would cool so they didn’t want the headache.. I then went the mustang route (not the best looking).. I would call walker and see if they’ll make what you need..

Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions both posted and PMed to me. If anyone knows of an "old school" rad shop in the Rhinebeck, NY area please PM me the info.
