Good Morning, It is a long, long story but my car was "borrowed" for awhile and when I got it back the springs were missing from the throttle linkage, transmission rod, etc. and it is un-drivable now. I can't seem to find an exact diagram for my car and was hoping to get some help from my HAMB brothers (and sisters). I will post some photos to show what mine looks like. I have some car shows coming up and I can hardly get it to move. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Scott (sorry if some of the images are sideways)
It looks like I would just put a spring to connect the two open holes in the levers, but, in diagrams I see two different springs going to two different places. HELP!!!
Is this even installed right? Looking at other photos there is suppose to be a spring pulling down on it to the firewall? Is mine upside down? Any help would be greatly appreciated. It is hard to find out any info.
Will it start & idle? Don't know if it will show what your looking for, but I'll take a look in my shop manual tonight when at home. If it won't even crank over then the neutral safety switch may have been damaged, or needs adjustment. Anyway here's a bump. -Dave
Maybe more than one thing going on. Have you checked the condition of the points, cap, rotor, plugs & wires? Is the initial spark advance set right? I think the bell crank should have a spring running towards the firewall, or rear of the bellhouse. But I don't think it would affect the starting / idling. Just the shifting / down shifting of the slush box. This car came with a manual choke, is it operating as designed? Has the flap in the exhaust manifold maybe become stuck and not operating as it should? Don't want to intrude, but what happened to your car while out of your possession? It's a great looking car and needs to be on the road. Good luck. -Dave
I connected a spring between the two obvious holes in the two brackets. It started fine but was going about full throttle. I took the spring off and the idle went way down but when I pushed on the gas pedal hardly anything happened. The engine runs fine when I manually work the throttle at the carb, and yes the manual choke is working fine. I'll look for a vacuum leak next. Here is a shot of the rear of the car.... Thanks
Looked last night and only found an illustration of the bell crank on a big block. It's a little different than the six if I'm remembering right. Will keep looking this weekend for the illustration of the six linkage in a couple other books. Could a blown power valve on the carb be causing some of these issues? I'm not sure. -Dave
