Anyone need a good stock rear end? 56 Ranch Wagon with 312 auto...was running in the car...no big leaks or hitchs in the gears...backing plate to backing plate...or with OEM FoMoCo drums and relatively new brake job...located in SoCal...$250 or make an offer if you want it...
Is the gear ratio tag on it ? This would be a good beefier upgrade for guys with a 1952-56 standard rear as this is the Dana 41 cousin to the Dana 44. From what I could look up ratio should be a 3:54 so better for cruising than the 3:90 or 4:10's.
Jeff would this be a good choice for a 1955 Ford Fairlane with a 302/C4 Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Yes it would, stronger than the standard 1949-56 car rear ends. Those had a rear gear slightly under 8" the Dana 44 rear has a 8.5 inch ring gear. It appears that this particular rear end is actually a better Dana 44 from the stamping and not the 41 used in early Ford Trucks. The rear end cover should look like the one shown below.

See Post # 19 You were too late. A lot of Jeeps use the Dana 44 rears too and have the same bolt pattern as a Ford look for some of these as a possible donor. (remember that the 1952-56 rear ends were 57" wide. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/jeep-non-********/573279-axle-widths.html
Check craigslist. I believe there's accouple of maverick rear ends in your area that mostly work for 50s fords.
