The primer gray truck was in e-bay at least twice but it was gold then. The truck had a killer stance, and was priced right. Once you build one of these things from the ground up you learn real quick what it cost and time envolved. I believe the truck was gold before it was primered as seen now in the picture posted in here.

  3. Never really thought of those as gassers, but yes they do look very cool.

Cragar Super Tricks are similar to Centerline Auto-Drags, but use bolts instead of rivets. The pic is so blurred up I can't tell for sure either.

[IMG]This is a '46 Ford pickup A/GS (same as '40 but heavier frame and different front sheet metal). It runs great with that blown big block Ford - kinda like an irresistbale force meeting an immoveable object. Nowdays, that extra wheelbase could actually work in your favor, especially with a high HP engine. Just remember FTF's #1 rule: "Never put a nine second motor in a twelve second chassis." Fastest recipie for disaster I know.

I'm guessing 3". My '46 has a three inch whaack (it has the same cab as a '40):

Regarding Willys front ends: I did not like the Ford grille so I reworked it to look more like a '41 Willys.

the wheels in the first pic have rivets all the way around. They are flat (or flattish) so they wouldn't be Cragar Supertricks.

    I'm guessing Centerline as well

The wheels are Centerlines, look like they're polished (or at least were at one time). The polished ones are smooth and the spun aluminum ones aren't.

What kind of frame is under the chopped 40 pickup?

Hi, i'm a bit late on the thread myself, so don't know if anyone will see this. I'm the current custodian of the '40 Ford Gasser pickup that has been discussed above, so was interested to see that it's caused some interest amongst some of you HAMB'ers.
The Frenchtown Flyer is right, it has had a 3" chop. The frame is home brewed and is 102" wheelbase.
Someone else mentioned it was Gold before the primer, but it was the other way around, and is currently painted Gold.
If anyone has any more info on it, or pictures at shows etc. i'd love to know more about it/see them.

Hi threemile,,,,I am the guy who built that truck from a cab. I hope they didnt paint over my name on the glovebox??? LOL. I cant seem to ever get pics to post up here, but if you email me direct I can send you many pics and answer any questions about every piece of the truck. For the others,,,,,thanks for the kind words. It IS a 102" wheel base (same as willys) weighs 2700 lbs. all steel. Yes, you can put the willys glass nose on one of these cabs if you cut the cowl edge of the hood. I have done it. Been thinking of my 'ol 40 lately and I am glad to see it is still getting some love.

My 1941 Ford with 27 rear fenders. Going to swap to 41 rear fenders. Has a round tube gasser style bumper on the rear.

Pickups don't make very competitive gassers. If you take advantage of the 10% motor setback the engine winds up in your lap and you can't move the seat back. They look cool as hell, but the same drive train package in a sedan of the same style built to take advantage of the rules will let you run quicker.
Same is true today, i know a guy that ran a state of the art pro stock pickup as an A/Altered. He pulled the drivetrain out and put it in a '63 corvette bodied race car and ran nearly 2 tenths quicker and holds the national record - his mph was about the same, he just got there quicker.

This was my fathers pickup. I’m building one now. I’m currently building a frame for it, 104” wheelbase with a 31 spline 9” , 327 .40 over, Schneider cam, 4 speed. Going to chop it 4” all steel truck
