    Talking with an old timer like myself and Gratiot auto in Detroit came up. Always wondered what was correct pronunciation was. Is it Gra t ot or Gra shut. I always thought it was the 2 of the two.

    Gra (long A) and tiot (actually sounds like the word ****). Or you could say Grash-it.

    Yep....it’s proumonced gra****..born and raised in Detroit..Westsider till we moved to Inkster!
    And no more stores...they were big in their day. I used to by parts from the Wooodward location from time to time

    Shopped there often at their main store and at the store in Troy. The manager, Gino, went on to work for Ford Motorsports as the main man. The store always treated me fairly and gave good racing advice.

    Right or wrong I always pronounced it Gray She Ott (in one word of course).

    Since the 60's, I always pronounced it Graa-T-ott. Still do. If they wanted me to say it different, they should have spelled it different...

    Some people just like to get pronunciation right so they don't sound like a ****head when referring to a third party. Imagine how pissed off you might get if people kept pronouncing your name wrong.
