I am going to look at a 1951 pontiac. Can someone tell me where to look on the engine to find the vin number and if it is numbers matching to the car, will it match with the vin on the pillar. Thanks
On the GM inlines the engine number is usually stamped on a pad that is close to the distributor. I wouldn't get too carried away expecting the engine serial number to match the serial number on the door post tag on one that early. Searching doesn't bring up much. The GM herritage center doesn't have listings or Pontiac info showing. I did find this and you may want to poke around on the forum in the link. Thread is 11 years old so I wouldn't post a question on that thread but would start my own if you can't dig up the info on the site http://www.pontiacregistry.com/members/viewtopic.php?p=2105&sid=20e08b196a12ef61c566ad7293ffe933
The above information is taken from the Standard Catalog of American Cars and pertains to 1951 Pontiac cars. Hope this helps. Ray
Just the usual question. Where in general are you located? If you are in Syria don't worry about the VIN, California is another story. You might try calling your local DMV and asking where they would look for it. Having said that, it looks like Ray nailed it in Post #3. Charlie Stephens
Awesome, thanks guys. I am from my. I am looking at a car with a missing pillar tag. The vin is on the reg. And I want to see if it matches the number on the block.
