Hi guys, I am rebuilding a 54 210 sedan. Could someone with one of these cars (bel air as well) which is assembled as it was from the factory please look at the rear edge of the inner fender and tell me what the 3 large oval holes are for? I have searched photos on the internet and can not make out anything. Thanks
I have 3, 1954 210 series. I do not know which holes you are referring. A picture would be nice. John
WilleE, have the front clip off of our 54', so checked out the panels... the oval adjustment holes you're asking about align with the vertical piece that has the slight bend at 2/3's down on the piece. They're going to need large washers. On your other fender question, National Chevy Parts (651) 778-5354 offers a Front Fender Anti Squeak Kit #1512, has all the gaskets & seals you'll need, older catalog shows $40.00. They have alot of the smaller rubber, seals & etc. dyno dave
sorry guys it has been a while since I have done a forum and it seems like you need to upload pics to a service like photo bucket to get an URL so until I get that going no pics. Dyno Dave, I have a front body to frame mounting bracket on my firewall which has 2 round holes for the lower 2 holes in the inner fender. So are you saying there is another panel which the upper 3 oval holes bolt into? If so, where does it attach to the cowl? I have no holes in that area where anything would attach? Jerry
At the rear of the inner fender the bottom 2 holes are bolted to the triangular shaped brace which bolts to the frame. I have that part figured out. Above those 2 holes there are 3 oval holes. They are along the rear edged of the inner fender along the area with the staples. 2 holes are easy to see and the 3rd is up high on the edge, near where the fender would bolt on. These are what I'm asking about. My car has nothing bolted to those so I need to know what they bolt to. Thanks Jerry
I also have my 54 apart , would have to look. You can upload a file here without a service , but someone else will have to explain it.
Ok I got the ap and can add pics. So on the firewall bracket I see 2 holes indicated by green tape and on the inner fender 3 holes indicated by tape. Is there a metal part that bolts to these 5 locations? I’m concerned because the clip seemed loose before I disassembled it and this is the only smoking gun I can see at the moment. WilieE, you should have three panels, a large inner panel, the tall 12" x 31" one & the shaped 12"x13" part... The tall piece uses the three holes on the large panel and the shaped part fastens to both the tall part and the firewall. Think I'm right here, when you get this stuff torn apart it get confusing. Hang in there, dyno dave
Any chance you could take a picture of the tall 12x31 and 12x13 parts? These were missing on this car and the front fenders shook when engine idled. Thank you very much for the help!!! Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
This morning I primed the smaller parts, so later today I'll take photos of those and then do a picture of the three part mock-up. Hopefully get them posted this evening...
It's a triangular shape that has the nuts welded to it. Wraps around and is the lower rear inner fender. People who don't know tend to chuck these parts or forget to install them. IIRC the other end of it bolts to the ~12" 'C' channel piece perpendicular to the frame, that the rear lower part of the outer fender bolts to.
Yeah I’d really appreciate pictures so I can perhaps buy them online if I see them. I wish I had noticed these holes months ago when I wasn’t so close to finishing Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
WilieE, mocked up the inner fender panel assembly to show the parts attached to the firewall. 53' chevy's parts should be the same...
Dyno Dave I can’t thank you enough! It looks like I can probably fabricate these myself if I can’t find them. I knew the door jamb was too exposed to splashing and this will tighten it all up. Genius! Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Got the parts from a great guy from Florida off Craigslist. Thanks everyone for helping me figure out what they look like. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
