Am I a little on the OCD side, or is this a secret unspoken common practice?
When you get a set of brand new tires, do you just need to grab a razor blade and trim the ******s, teats, whatever you wanna call those long skinny protruding rubber strands from the mold off right away? It drives me crazy, kinda like talking to someone that has one of them long nose hairs that just sways back and forth when your talking to them.
Even before they go on, I sit there with a blade and take each one off.
Just curious if anyone else cares about those "Tire Hairs".

No. And if I saw someone doing it, I'd slowly walk away.

    And you would be wrong.

I bought a set of tire that had the longest ***'s I had ever seen, the small nubs really didn't bother me gut those things were at least 3/4" long and I had to do something about them.

I looked around in my tool box for a single edge razor blade and all I found was a empty box,I went in the house and ask the boss lady if she had on and she ask what I was doing.

After I told her what I was doing she said why not use fingernail clippers and that's what I did,it was a quick fix and to be totally honest I have never seen another set of tires like that. HRP

Yep we have done it, but they were BFG wide whites and the dam ***s were like whiskers on the black of the side wall. Ain't going to wear those puppy's off in a hurry. I think we used nail clippers also.

Saw them once. Didn't think to go after them. Thought they made the tires look new.

I’ve got lots of long rubber whiskers off the sidewalls of my Excelsior radials.

I’ll clip them off, the rest on the treads can be taken care of by the YBlock ;) :D

I trim the sidewalls, let them wear off the tread.

And I guess I should have said "sidewalls", yeah the others come right off in a few miles.
Glad to see that there are others out there that snip their ***s, LOL.

I used to just pluck them off every now and then. Sort of like popping zits as a kid or picking a big booger.

    The longer, the better.
And the longer they last means I don't have to buy another set of new tires.
Wish these whiskers cut into the dirt roads or snow.

Is this the extension of the fur - angel hair - ***** grab - and why am I on trad hot rod forum anyway - featured thread ?

If you have to trim them off the sidewalls, your not driving it hard enough. :)

They are vents in the tire mold that allow air to escape the mold cavity, the extreme pressure then forces the rubber compound into the holes.
