well i haven't posted in awhile. here is what i have. keep in mind the cab, bed and grill are just thrown on. 40 ford cab chopped 4 with suicide doors many moons ago. i cut 5 inches out of the floor. bed is 50 dodge shortend 2 feet. 318 motor, 727 tranny. 33-34 ford frame i slightly modified and was also boxed years ago. front end is 33-34 but i just had to have the after market axle. 40 spindles. front brakes, home made disc brake set up. rear end, old 8 3/4. 36 ford truck grill up front. 33-34 ford steering set up, yet to be put on and your basic chrome smoothies and crap radials. like many others, i'm building this on a budget and have about 3,000 in it right now.

this is my FIRST build from the ground up. so take it easy on this kid! and let me know what you think. good or bad!

Hey I like it! And since you only live 30 minutes away I'll expect to see it on the road.

Looks good to me. When you build on a budget you have to take everything with a grain of salt. I'm sure with an unlimited budget you'd probably do some things differently. However, being forced to use some parts almost gives it more character. Good Job!

Look forward to seeing it go down the road.

    It looks good to me.

I think the "traditional" spirit IS exactly what you are doing.

Using what you can/ whats on hand/ what you can afford.

Sometimes you have to make concessions because of that. Don't be embarrased about it.

    That truck rules.

I prefer to see something like this than some snooty assed "period correct" "you can't hang with me cause I'm better than thou" piece.

That truck IS traditional. Its not period correct....and thats a good thing.

    My 02.

Thats the direction I want to go with my 46 Ford.

    I think you did great

    Looks Cool!!!

You're workin' on your project, making progress, and showing some real resourcefullness.

The world could use more rodders like yourself.

Have fun, keep us all updated.

Just want to add, before any shit storm, that I'm in no way against "period correctness".

A period correct vehicle is a very nice thing to behold.

Just like a restored vehicle is a thing of beauty and I appreciate them all day long.

(yes I think they both are very similar).

Its just that a period correct vehicle is more expensive to put together and therefor out of range of many back yard builders who just want to have some fun.

If that truck looked like shit, people here wouldn't hesitate to tell you.
Looks like you did pretty good. :)

worst thing you could have done.

    1. leave the no-paint look to Jimmy Shine or other master metalworkers.

    2. its not traditional at all.

    3. those are good looking trucks when you leave the fenders on.

  14. The best thing about the 40 Ford truck is the fenders (ok the grill also, but your grill isn't bad), so I agree with those comments. But otherwise it looks good. I like the chop.

regardless of what others here may say about its "correctness", I like it. I would like to build one without a bed at all. A cab on rails.

That thing is cool. No matter what you hear other people say when your crusin. The best thing about a ride like this is that its built the way you want it not how everyone thinks you should do it I hate that shit. I have a 39 chevy cab and a 30 ford frame going to do the same thing. still gathering parts.

often those cabs look too bulky on fenderless rods, but I think your proportions are great with the size of the bed and the rest. Good job, looks great

  18. I think it looks great. And i must say doing what you can afford to look cool and go fast is realy what hot rodding is about. Not ooh look at all my high dollar shit...

Looks good man. The proportions are pretty nice and thats usually a big mistake with those later cabs. One thing that i think would make it look better, is if the bed was sectioned a few inches. The bed looks a little bit too tall. Other than that its lookin pretty darn good! Nice work!

I have to agree with some of you guys about leaving the fenders on a '39-'41 Ford pickup, as they are some of the nicest looking trucks Henry ever made, BUT, I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and guess that maybe sickboy only had the cab to start with, and didn't commit some sacralige by throwing the rest of the '40 truck away!

The '33-'34 frame, steering and axle kinda tipped me off on this one. The truck does have kind of a cool junkyard look to it, and the bed wouldn't look quite so tall with a little less channel on the cab, but not bad for the current level of investment, for sure.

BTW, with a 4" chop and a 5" channel, you gotta either be short, young, or both to enjoy that. I don't think I could wad myself up enough to climb in and out of that very easily. But, as long as you're having fun with your truck, :D

    Later,

Hey sickboy, good to see you post again. Looks like you been busy! I like it!!

  24. The MOPAR drivetrain is a nice breath of fresh air, 727 transmissions are bulletproof when built correctly. I agree that fenders make that body appealing to the eye.Nice blood red maple tree's in the backround, godd for shadetree mechanics.

From what it looks like in the pic, the grill shares the same angle as the A-pillar.....if that's the case....nice. I don't like the grills too laid back. yours looks right. Nice job,
