Thought maybe some of you would enjoy these as much as I do. I've got a ton of 'em so I'll try to post a few each day. If anybody else has any, let's see 'em.
Hey,Spaulding. Did you know there was a car named the Spaulding, produced in Grinnell,Iowa from 1910 to 1916? One year they featured fold-down seats that made a bed called Pullman seats after the train car. Just thought you'd be interested-I have photos.
Not really full ads (everything but the text), but here's one of my favorite sites I like to go thumb through every once in a while. Tons of illustrations from the old car ads like up above, other cool stuff too... tires, food, etc... Check it out... http://www.plan59.com/ . . . .
my house is a freaking fire hazzard with all the **** on my walls and in my room....ahhh office. if i can score it cheap it's mine, plus my customers and friends (and friends parents) give me more stuff because they know i like "old" stuff.
I should have kept the ones I got in high school. My art teacher got all the National Geographics that a local library was liquidating. When he was done, I got all the car ads. Very few color ads. The mags were from the 20's. I had 85 different brands of car ads. Sterns-Knight, Whippet etc. Not really hot rod stuff but they were cool anyway. That was in 1961 or 62.
That's exactly how I aquired all of mine. Local library relocating and getting rid of old National Geographics. Most all have a pretty sweet old Coca Cola ad on the back cover too.
One good resource is here: http://www.grinnell.lib.ia.us/files/local-history.htm Check out their photo archives for 4 or 5 good Spaulding pictures.
At school I had ads for the '55 Pontiac hardtop, the '56 Hudson and the '57 Pontiac framed and hung over my bed (all 8.5 by 11s or whatever that format was). Over my desk I had a September of '66 Camaro introductory ad in that same size. Now over our dresser in the bedroom we've got a double-page ad for the new '49 Nash 600 out of one of the oversized magazines like the Saturday Evening Post and beside the bed we've got ads for the Pinin Farina redesigned Nash, the new '62 Corvair convertible ("Now the top goes DOWN.") and above the stairs is an un-framed '60 Corvair sedan ad. I love this stuff and can't get enough of it. I just wish I had more money and wall space. -Dave PS It seems I have local compe***ion for ads now. It used to be I could get '40s-'60s National Geographic mags for pennies or free, now they're nowhere to be found.
