I think that someone who is having problems with their bags didn't put them on right. I started a post on the life spand of bags ands many people one here have a lot of trouble free miles.

When I broke down on the way to Roundup up it made changing my Fuel Pump a breeze on the side of the road. I can't even believe I forgot to mention that PLUS. Still makes me a bag fag though!

i recently did a bag setup on my 53 chevy. 4 link, gambino notch, mustangII superlow.i did not want it to lay so i mocked it up with the brackets lower.then i said screw it and put it on the floor.i run tall wide whites, and can lay it out,and i love it. one drawback though is the bags only allow the rear end to drop so far.not as far as the leafs so changing tires is a huge hassle. as far as traditional goes thats what i built my 29 roadster for,but a kustom has to be comfy.

it's all about the setup. last year(about the time this thread was current!:D ) i wrapped up the rear suspension on my 51 chevy. i'm running a long two link, i had to raise the floor, but got a ton of travel because i mounted the bags in the middle of the 5 foot long or so links. it'll lay out in the back, yet raise it plenty enough to change tires. i learned from other's mistakes, heard too many guys bitchin about not being able to change a tire on the road.

I dunno Phil. You know I love you Patron, but I gotta disagree with you on this. Grapevine is my favorite early 60's car of all time. Larry had the lake pipes pretty much on the ground. I realize he wasn't "laying rocker". But he was all about the layed out look. Grapvine was an inch or two off the ground in 1962. As far as I'm concerned, most of the hydro'd cars of the late 60's/early 70's and beyond were built to achieve a similar look. Many of the photos of Grapevine on the grass look no different than some of the bagged cars at Paso, stance wise. IMHO, it's not entirely a new thing. At least not in spirit.:)

I dont know how many times people have argued about this on here, nomatter if you think your right, someone else has something contradictory to your statement, i like bags personally, but its not worth arguing over.

dude if it aint hammered on the ground i dont want it..the only reason bags wasnt used back in the 50's and 60's is because they werent as easy to come by as nowadays...if they were easy to come by back then ..then this story would be turned around...cause all customs would have had them and a custom now days would stupid without them....IMO..

  16. I can vouch for him,. his 55 iwas/is the best one out there. The second dumbest thing I ever did was not buy this car when it was for sale. 55 pontiacs are not easy to get all the way down but you did an awesome job billy

Those were the days everybody warmed up their cars for 5 minutes. That was how long it took to raise them. Yep, the good ol days.

    Gotta add my .02
My truck has about 2 1/2" of clearence underneath my front clip. I love cruising it down the road, and in my oppinion, it's the best ride height I could ever hope for. BUT, everytime I see a decent bump in the road coming up it makes my ass pucker.

I agree that laying frame is all for show and there's no go to it, but it's also piece of mind that you aren't going to wreck your car going over train tracks.

but at the same time, you can't ignore good technology just cause "its not a time period thing"....i'm sure when all this started if we were where we are now with the air ride/suspension options, Barris, Windfeild, and all the rest would have been eatin' it up and laying it out too.
    just my opion.
i dig bags, i love the ride, i love the options....the only thing i don't like is the price....but hey, no one ever said this was a cheap way of life...

You are wrong my friend. The best thing about bags is dropping your ass on the road and spraying sparks on some soccer mom thats on her cell phone and not looking where she is going.

    old saying;
"build a custom to get a chick, build a hot rod to get rid of her"

  25. Well, I'll jump in even though it is a year old thread.
Scrub line guys....Laying rail is a direct contradiction to this.
If you can find a way to pin it so it won't drop below scrub line while your driving, and then pull the pins when you get where you're going, I might buy into it.
    Otherwise...it's just not safe.
    Shit happens.

  28. That car was bulletproof....I remember seing it at Pomona YEARS ago when the hood stripes were off (when it was primer purple/white)and there was wiring everywhere under the dash and it sounded awesome...or when the rear end went out in it and you still made it to the Doll Hut the following night...how the hell do I remember these things?

I am 90% certain that I will put bags on my '57 truck. I think airbags are great. I've never ridden in a car with bags, but in my brain it all makes sense to me.
