My wife Jamie bought this 1962 Aloha trailer in 2016. She is a sales rep, and one of her customers in Wenatchee WA had it. He had started the restoration by pulling half the inside apart and lost interest. He did also flip the axle under the leaf springs so it sat higher and put new tires on it. My wife loved it and we drove over and picked it up and took it home. I ended up doing bearings because the previous owner did them, but left them lose and drestroyed them. Sure glad I double checked Jamie wanted to get it together for the camping season, but I told her we had better fix it up now, otherwise it would not happen. That ended up taking all summer. She wanted to paint the inside because the wood was in need of refinishing. Although her project, I coaxed (guided) her in the fact that the wood was in good shape, just needed sanded and refinished. This by far took the longest. The upholstery was long gone, so after the wood was completed, we had an upholster come over and take measurements and made up the rear sofa/bed and dinet cushions. Jamie went to an antique show and found a large custain made in the late 50’s/early 60’s killer material and bought it. With help of her Aunt, They had just enough to make curtains for the whole inside. We still need to put flooring in, and the water pump went out. It’s like an old car...always something to do but we did take it on several camping trips including one to the WA State Eruption Drags, then to the Olympic Nationa Forest...which was about a week long 1,000 Mile journey all over WA state. Trailer (and kids age 1 and 3) did just fine. I also had an awning made for it and have jamie for Christmas but it still needs installed. Disregard my Chevy pickup in the pics...until I get a 57-60 ford crew cab pickup or an old wagon...the Silverado it is. I did have a 65 F-100 that would tow it but the whole family can’t fit in it.
You guys did a great job and I'm glad you coxed the boss into refinishing the wood and not painting it. HRP
I agree, it looks great. I'm sure it didn't hurt that it came from Wenatchee where it's nice and dry. You did a great job cleaning it up without taking away from it's original charm.
that curtain material is just plain CRAZY... "too cool"! Love the pink colored darts on the seats, too
I sent this link to my wife and she loves it! She wanted me to mention that between buying the trailer and getting it camp ready, she got pregnant with kid number 2....hence why it took so long. She could no longer sand or do any staining/coating which left me in charge. Here is a pic of her working on it after getting the kiddo to bed a couple years ago. As a parent, one of my favorite times is nap time and bed time LOL. We would sit in the trailer and have a beer on summer nights. Soaking up all the quiet ha!
Hey Chris, Did you find anything from previous owners? Especially with their name on it? Sure looks a lot like my grandparents old trailer. They live outside Wenatchee. Theirs might have been slightly newer. They sold it in the mid 80s so its been a long time since I laid eyes in it. If you found evidence of a parrot it's definitely theirs.
Chris, If you haven't got your flooring yet , lookup ****her & Co.,They have vintage style vinyl flooring ,a ton of different styles
Yes, both kids sleep at the front and Jamie and I on the fold down couch in the back. Even the dog has a place to sleep. I did finally get the awning installed...I need to learn how to stake it and make it tight. This was mocked up in the driveway on Saturday night...with a beer after the kids were in bed HA!
I've tried talking my wife into an awning for ours but she won't have it. I think it adds to the vintage character of these things. She's gonna see these pics tonight!
Hi Chris.Looking good.Glad that you talked the Mrs out of the paint thing.Looks fantastic. Good luck.Have fun.Be safe. Leo
