Hell yeah. The punk rock part is taking a car you spent your bill money on and cutting its roof off and welding it back on then driving its ****ing balls off. Driving it with a 3 speed that's not up to the task and smells of old varnished 600 weight. Showing up for a beer with the boys reaking of exhaust and gasoline. Keeping keys for your banjo rear end in your pocket cause you know your own tendancies. Thrashing all day and night to get your boys car going for some ******** deadline you set for yourselves and fixing it the whole ride there with your bros. When everyone else is watching TV your cutting, welding, grinding, swearing and doing all the thankless necessary ******** that nobody that hasn't done it can appreciate.

"And the point of all this is that we are all hot rodders. And we all share that one thing with even the worst a****st us. And ultimately, we are all after the same thing."

I think this one thing gets forgotten. Each of us has our own vision, some will share that vision, some won't, that doesn't mean that vision is right or wrong, it just means we may look at things from a different perspective. In the end, we're all doing our thing, our way. We know when we reach that point, even if nobody else does.

i quit writing anything on the hamb about 4 yars ago after several members made fun of my 1939 Ford deluxe coupe because it did not "fit" their idea of what a 39 coupe should look like. I say and practice the thought that to each his own and I do not hate or dislike anyone on the hamb. just don't need the BS it generates at times. thanks, Henry IOWA 020.JPG

Henry, sorry that happened to you. Your ‘39 is bad ***. I hear ya and experience the same thing. Bullying is allowed here (and most web forums too). Heck there is some who think being mean/unlawful is somehow part of the hot rod culture. For me, Hot Rods are all about friendship, camaraderie, family, togetherness, sharing, and working for the common vision. I don’t for a moment think the Hot Rod ledgends were about rebellion.

I’m not on any social media platform for the reasons you’ve experienced. Somehow many people enjoy criticing.....anonymously. And forum leaders allow it. I was on another vintage truck website (not the HAMB) and mentioned that I have a 1960 F100 “Stepside”. HOLY COW, I envoked a **** storm on myself for not knowing that Chevy made stepsides not Ford. (It would like me saying I have a Rat Rod here). People were very cruel. I reported the most viscous poster to the forum leaders and they just shrugged. So, like you Henry, for the last year, I read that forum, and don’t post.

PS, I’ve been to Griswald, Iowa.
