I'm helping a friend move some old iron and I need a little guidance on how much to ask for em.All the cars have rust issues, good for parts.A couple are complete, everything has been sitting for at least 20 years in the southwest miss. jungle! He doesn't know what to ask for em and I don't want to guess at it,with them not being my cars. Here's a list: 2ton chevy dualie truck, early 50's,no bed,no eng./trans 62 Studebaker lark, varsity 4dr,no eng,has trans 62 Studebaker truck, complete, lower rust, bed rust etc.289 eng. late 40's studebaker suicide 4dr,extremely rough,no eng/trans 57 ford fairlane 500 4dr,no eng/trans,rough 61 tbird, complete,390,rough checker cab aerobus,8dr body,no eng. model a cowl, windshield, pass. door, decent cond. He also has an assortment of later model cars up to mid to later 70's plus a bunch of vw cars and parts. Also a 54 chevy 1/2 ton no eng.but has the original auto trans, very rusty, and a 63 a100 van, very rough Here's the 2 pics I can put on here until I can resize the others:
You can get around $75 each at a scrapper for them. I don't see anything worth much more than $200-$300, every one of those I can find examples of up here in about the same shape for $400 or less and they have motors in them. The Stude in the pic is a 50-51. Some of them might be worth the time to part out (the fenders on that '57 Ford might go easy), and the Model A stuff will move easy - $100-$150 for that aught to move it quick. The Checker, who knows, you don't see those in junkyards much but it takes the right guy to want one. Probably worth saving the gate and stuff, depending on the year it might have had a Chevy motor so the trans miight be worth hanging onto.
I agree, those all look like $200-$300 junk parts cars to me. The '57 Ford front fenders are desirable and so is the Model A shit but it's still not going to bring big money. However, (at least up by me) scrap iron is bringing $130 per ton so I'd say they're worth more than $75 each to the scrap guy. You're probably best off pulling all the good useable stuff off of each car and scrapping out the bodies.
If the newer stuff includes anything remotely muscle-car related, that would be worth a few bucks. If you believe what you see on "Wrecks to Riches" you can get stupid money for bare shells of 67-69 Camaros (for example). Wouldn't hurt to cut some trees down, take good photos, and give them a shot on eBay starting at $200. The Checker might sell, it's weird enough.
I think we'll end up selling the complete cars and parting out the rest,a car's parts are usually worth more than the whole,in this case at least.
i'd like to see any of those VW bodies that are out there. if it's early stuff i might be interested or know somebody who is.. look for oval rear windows and that sort of thing.
He has an old vw pickup most of the rest looks like 60's beetle stuff,I'm sure he would make you a great deal if you wanted everything.
