Has anyone used a Grant steering wheel adaptor for a '55 ford? I pulled the old steering wheel off for a bunch of reasons, but anyway I have not been able to get this Grant adaptor to fit over the splined steering shaft. I called Grant and they confirmed that all the parts had the right numbers so I ordered a new kit since I ruined the old hub trying to pound it on. New kit came and same problem. Hub adaptor will not slip down the shaft. Acts like the splines are not matching up. The Grant kit is #4267. Does anyone have any experience with this or know of another adaptor steering kit they would recommend.

Application shows it is the same 1949-56, I have the same part number on my '54 Customline it should work, was the wheel you pulled off the original '55 wheel? Take a small wire brush to the splines in case these is some gunk in them. Also with the hub off check the splines some shafts have a flat alignment spline that you have to line up to install it,should be EZ to see on the old wheel.

The splined shaft has one spline missing to keep the steering wheel straight. If you miss that one little groove, the installation will not be groovey. Also, it is slightly tappered. Clean all the parts well, use plenty of light.

Do not pound that adapter on the spline ! If that part cracks, it will leave you with no steering.

Jeff NO , it won't work ! I have one on my 55 and it's a Grant #5670 . I kept the box as a reference . I did try 3 different ones from Advanced Auto and none worked . I found this one on Ebay . It's the old original Grant adapter so I don't know if you can get this one from a local parts store .

I knew about the spline . The kits I got were for Tbirds since their computer didn't have a Fairlane or similar in there so we tried the other Fords figuring they would fit but NO DICE !
The ONLY one I bought that fit was the 5670 adapter . I still have the box with that number on the box ! It fit like a glove with no problems at all ! Been using it for 6 years now and still holding tight ! I also used that same number on Ebay for Grant adapters and it came up with a totally different adapter . Mine is an original kit from the early 70's so I am sure the number was discontinued along the way at some point and then maybe reused in todays catalogs for something else . I wish you good luck trying to find one . I was lucky when I got mine .

Did you have to build a spacer to keep your steering shaft bearing tight ?

Grant 5670-1 shows up on Amazon, but out of stock. You could order it and see what happens.

This thread is six years old and I haven't seen Retro Jim on here in years. You probably won't get an answer from him.

Old Jim hangs out on facebook these days,he tended to get over political here and rubbed some folks the wrong way,he has also faced a lot of sadness with medical issues that hit his family members pretty hard but lately things seem to be getting better for them.
