Technical '56 Dodge truck door handles

A buddy of mine just bought a pretty nice '56 Dodge pick-up, But the outside door handles hang like a limp you know what. So bad in fact, I don't think a little blue pill in the gas tank would help. Anyone know what the remedy is? Thanks, Gene.

 

If I remember correctly, there is a spring in the latch mechanism that breaks, causing the issue. It's a clock type spring. Good luck trying to find them.

 

I suspected something like that. But wasn't quite sure...thanks.
