Hey everyone. I went to Pomona this morning and found a bellhouse to replace my original one. At some point in time the previous owner cut the top of the bellhouse off so that the flywheel would clear it. I'm a picky SOB and felt i had to replace it. I ended up finding the one in the photo on the right for $15! I am going to use the original 3-spd ******, column shift am3d stomp start. I am however bolting all of this onto a 235 from a 58 Delray ( yes, installing a shortened w.pump and installing side mounts, etc.) The casting numbers on both bellhousings match (GM 3835201) but there are more holes around the ****** hole on the I found today (right of photo). Any ideas if this will cause problems or can I proceed and bolt her in place? Thanks!
The extra holes don’t look to be factory from what I can see in the picture, but I can’t think of any problems that they would cause.
Or, the extra drilled holes were to bolt up to a 41-54 p***enger car manual transmission; the for-runner transmission to the 55 on Muncie 318/319 transmissions. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
^^^^^^^^^ my thought too. The trucks of your era used a different trans bolt pattern than the p***enger cars thru '54. Looks like someone modified this one to attach a p***enger trans. No harm done, just ignore the extra holes. Ray
Thanks for the feedback everyone. I'll be bolting this new one up instead of my hacked one. Maybe fill the holesw some quicksteel after i clean it up. Thanks Again!
Another thought is that someone had that bellhousing in a 47 or earlier pickup that had the small bolt pattern like the cars did. They went to the larger bolt pattern on trucks in 48.
