Anyone have any info on getting a car picked up and delivered to my place? Never had it done before, car is in Glendale Arizona and I'm in Ky, about 1900 miles. Figured it's be cheaper than making that drive. Few years ago I wouldn't of thought nothing about it, now I hate to drive 100 miles.
Contact these HAMB Members. I’ve used them and trustworthy. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/car-hauling-nationwide-show-time-transport.614568/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...ar-transport-hauling-open-or-enclosed.614419/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/bend-t-and-a-transport.635739/ It won’t be cheaper than getting it yourself. The going rate these days is 1.00 - 1.25 per mile depending if it is open or enclosed trailer.
A bunch of pictures. I'd have to have a bunch more, that is what bothers me. The guy seems like a real good guy, he'll send me anything I want. I never was very lucky at gambling though.
There a several shippers in the HAMB rolladex offering their shipping services. I had one shipped from Bakersfield, California to New York. Give Bill Squire a shout. I was totally Happy with his safe and prompt delivery.
I’m north for the summer, but we’ve still got a number of members in that area. Maybe someone could take a look for you. They might also know a local hauler to go that far.
One thing to note, get a lot of pictures of the roof areas, side and shots of the high rear parts. Any place the car would bump, when transporting the car if it gets put on the bottom of a multi-car carrier there is chance the the roof can get bumps or damage. I'm not saying one of them HAMB guy have done, it but just in general get pics of the areas that may get damaged during transport. expect it to be in the 1500.00-2500.00 range. Any cheaper and you find more careless transporters.
Nearly every time I bought something without seeing it first, I was disappointed. Luck is a little on your side since it's going west to east...you'd think the car would be less rusty at least. All that being said....I've used UShip.com....they walk you through it...transporters bid on your job. Like a reverse Ebay...normally the bids get lower as you go along....good luck...
Never lived in AZ...lol...I saw more rusted out cars in '79-85 when I was there, than I had seen my whole life before. AZ was (maybe still is) a hot spot for what was called "snowbirds"...folks who left the cold back east, to spend it in AZ...yes, those salt traveled cars just kept rotting away. OP...have someone go over it with a magnet.
Mike AZ (desertexplorer)lives in Glendale & I'm sure he wouldn't mind looking at it for you. You listening Mikey
I'd go along with the suggestion of one of the HAMB haulers. One thing to consider is does the car run so it can be moved around easily? is it on wheels with tires that will hold air? will the wheels roll easily? Most convoy trucks won't haul anything that doesn't run, drive somewhat at least and stop. Being able to roll in, drive it on or in the trailer or winch it in easily makes a lot of difference over one that has to be set on a flatbed with a fork lift.
Amen! I had my Ford delivered from Denver to NY, no drive train, no brakes. Took a while to find a shipper that would move it. Most balked about going over the NYC bridges more than anything.
FWIW, I had a car transported a number of years ago from Es***, MD to western NY state. About 350 miles cost about $500 I used one of the online shipping sites where they put the job on "the board" and haulers picked up the jobs. The guy I got was named "Tank". he had a covered single car trailer and an f350. He was spending his retirement doing "east coast loops" from his home in CT hauling stuff, cars mostly. He was a nice guy who took good care of the car. Hope this helps I would also agree with what others have said about getting a local HAMBer to inspect the car for you Or, post all your pics here and let the well trained eyes of these guys give it the once over Good luck Chappy
I too have used Bill's Auto Works owned by Bill Squires. I would use him again without hesitation. There was excellent communications from start to finish, and he is a real pleasure to do business with. I found Bill to be a man of his word in every way. A rare quality in this day and age. In my case, my son knew the gentleman that built the car and even helped with the build on occasion. Therefore I did not feel compelled to go inspect the car. No disappointments. A good friend recently bought a car out of Florida, sight unseen. I believe if he had inspected it first he would have either p***ed on the car or negotiated a lower price.
Thanks for all the replies. The car runs and drives and the guy is really working with me. It's a 29 sedan so it won't take up much room. If I can find a friend that could help drive I go get it myself. Right now I have Mom in the hospital so I can't venture to far away. Really good info on here, thanks.
Uh Uh, if you don't know the guy, have someone go look at the car........you don't know if you're getting pics of the car or someone elses.....have a hamber look at it, save yourself some grief.
Is the seller a HAMB member , if so what is is HAMB name and how many posts does he have? Did you post a wanted ad on the HAMB cl***ifieds and he responded to it? Is it for sale on the HAMB cl***ifieds or was it advertised on say craigslist? If the seller is not a HAMB member, then have someone go verify the car that it exists and it’s condition. What are the sellers payment terms? You said the seller is working with you… Just make sure that the seller isn’t working YOU ! Before you do anything, I would do a full investigation if the seller is legit, the car is legit, and it’s condition.
I'm from NJ When I saw a car ( 56 Ford Victoria) in Henderson TX I LIKED I HAD A COUPLE OF LOCAL TX HAMBERS CHECK IT OUT AND REPORT BACK.IT WAS JUST AS DESCRIBED AND I HAD BEN D ( HAMBER)tow it back for me.
Buying any car without looking at it in person is a HUGE mistake. Cars always look better in photos. DON'T DO IT.
I bought a Galaxie a couple of years ago and had it delivered; I spent too much on the car, but the transfer people were great. Do yourself a favor and get someone to go and give that car a thorough examination. I wish I had.
Mike, DON'T even think about buying a car sight unseen. I almost did it once and went to see the car. It would have been a huge mistake the car was a POS. GARY
Well, you have two issues. First, is the car as described and really what you want? Choices are-see it yourself, get some HAMBers to check it out for you or take a chance-in that order. For transport, there's only one option-our HAMB haulers. I've only used Bill's Auto Works, but I was 200% satisfied and would recommend him to all. Keep us posted.
I agree with all of the above^^^^^ BUT- here's a Q for you, and I'm sure other's will at least agree on this statement........ SO- Do you know the weak points of the car your interested in? What rot's out, and what is "usual". Do you know what goes wrong with those models? Everything has a weak point, and it also depends what part of the country your in, and what part of the country your buying from..... An AZ car might not be the same as a NY car...... Called homework..... I've hope you've done it. Disappointment can knock on your door very soon if your not up to speed........
If you buy a car a considerable distance away - if it is roadworthy & you plan to drive it when you get home - put the money in the car .... That is the cheapest thing for you & the best thing for the car. If time does not allow for that - you can post up in the " Wanted " section of the HAMB Cl***ifieds to see if another HAMBer is going the way you need a haul done with an open trailer. Jim
Thank you gentlemen for the kind words about our service! (The 3 Hamb Haulers) To the O.P. Please keep in mind because of our reputations we are all booked well in advance. If you make the mistake of using Uship, you may or may not get an actual transporter. Chances are you will get a broker who has no idea who will do the actual transport. For Pete sake, DO NOT list your phone number on Uship! If you must use them, only post your email address. I have had numerous customers tell me horror stories about being called for up to 4 months after they had the car by brokers telling them they have a truck in the area! Sometimes they call in the middle of the night! God Bless & Best of Luck Bill Squires(owner) Bill's Auto Works
My other hobby is photography. The art of photography is to make the subject look as good as possible. I would never buy a car based on pictures alone. Traveling to see it would probably be the best investment you could make. Charlie Stephens
I just hauled a '49 chevy sub(a fellow HAMB'er) from Oklahoma City to Albertville,AL. @ 715 miles for $625. It was a little cheap but I was picking up a car that I bought 5hrs away.
