People. This isn't somebody trying to do it like they did it in the old days. This is people doing it like they did it in the old days. You want to see a little traditional hot rod racing. As opposed to a pretend hot rod race. Check it out for a little while.

Rich, This is an honest question, I don't want it to be taken wrong. Are there El Mirage People and Bonneville People, or do they race at both places? If a car and driver are good at one place are they just as fast at the other? Bob

Many race at both, but there are ones that just do one for different reasons like where they live, money to spend, etc.

After 40 yrs I quit running at Bonneville and only run El Mirage... The reason is simple trucks cost $50k now and I'm not sacrificing any more of them to the Salt Gods. I still strip my roadster every yr after running El Mirage usually once or twice.

True. Elmer's is different from Bonneville. Several people only run at one or the other. Guys from east or north of LA county are more likely to run at Bonneville only. El Mirage runs six meets a year. You run for points. 200 points if you equal your cl*** record. Pulse 25 points for setting a new record and 2 points for every percentage point over the old record you ran. Your line up position is determined by how many points you have. It's much better to be # 9 than # 197 in line. At the May meet Bob ran 293 on a 308 record. That put him at #50 for this meet. So 49 cars did better than him even though he had top speed of the meet. This is what makes flathead guys and banger guys race just as hard as guys running 500 inch blown hemis on 60%. Best I ever finished a year was #7 running a 302 GMC with a Howard head in a 32 Ford 5 window. I was one ahead of Don Vesco. If you don't know who Don Vesco was, you don't know anything about LSR. So it's real racing with vintage motors. Not an exhibition.

After watching and participating in many drag races, this meet was just outstanding. The land is owned by the Federal govt and they charged $7.50 to attend an all day affair. Watched many cars make “dusty p***es” and return to the pit area; model a’s,30’s style deuces, and many streamliners. What a fun day!

Thanks! I 'll check back and see how things are going. It always bothers me that only people that complain post on a site like that, live coverage of an event most people would love to attend and they complain, go figure. Bob

  14. Thanks for the reminder link. Wasn't coming up on the desktop for some reason, but got it on the TV. Almost like being there, except for the sun, sound, smell and dust. Thanks again!

lanes are really empty. Not that many cars running. I know Flashpoint didn't go and Rick said NT3 wouldn't be there. I have not seen Eddies Chop Shop. Maybe waiting for the wind to die down.
