Watch out for j.dad57. He joined on Wednesday and responded to a wanted post I did for a early Cadillac roller cam. He stole pictures from an other post and responded to me. lucky I recognized the pics from chickenshift's old post. He wanted cash transferred from Walmart or CVS. I called him at first and no one answered. He said he was hearing impaired and you had to text him. Every wants to rip you off. The address he gave was somewhere in S.C.

If I'm not busy I like to string these people along a little. They will waste their time on you versus an unsuspecting person who might get bit. Look at it as your good deed for the day. Like Jim Florentine does with telemarkters.

    There is no j.dad57
There is a j.dad51 that just signed up the other day and is banned.

Why? They are banned as soon as someone REPORTS it. All a sticky with names will do is grow long with names being added but are not on the hamb for more than a blink of an eye.

No - they are not banned from just reporting it.
Moderators have to manually look the HAMB name up you share and we then ban them.

That’s why it is important that you get a HAMB member name. You should be looking up when they joined and how many posts they have.

The sooner that you report it to a moderator the quicker we can ban these thiefs.

    Thanks for reporting scam suspects.

I meant as soon as reported and a mod sees it and resolves it. Same timeframe as a mod adding it to a list.

If you guys want to make a list of names that were used for a day and then banned, your call. I was just explaining to him why it would be a wasted effort.

Reason I had emphasized reports is because starting a random thread isnt the same as reporting it to a mod.

You are correct on sending a REPORT vs just a Random Post.

Thanks for clarifying and the help reporting suspected scammers.

I don't know how common this is but some of these s***bags are actually dumb enough to use their name on more than one site.
Banning someone is great, but that's where it ends, the more this stays archived in the cloud the more people it gets out to.

Problem is, just like telemarketers, you can ban a name or number and within minutes they have a new one and ready to go. I get an easy 30 telemarketer calls every day and block the numbers. Next day, dame calls, new numbers. Would not surprise me one bit if all these scammers are a handfull of people just resigning up, scamming, banned, repeat.

With the "bad sellers list" these are usually guys that use the same name on all forums and are more "established" so it makes more sense to put their real info out there. The scammers dont use real info and made up names and can repeat in minutes.

We will never be able to keep track of scammers by their member name, their email address or their phone numbers. They probably change their info all the time. I think the only way to identify them is by their behavior. I'm guessing that the reason we have so many scammers show up here is because they have been successful in the past. I think it's up to us to educate ourselves and stop falling for the scams. The mods do a good job of trying to weed them out but unfortunately they can only be reactive. We have to be on our guard and use common sense.

  18. "Don't get mad, get even".... When these saps answer an ad, string them along and waste their time... I'm sure we have enough creative minds a**** us to give them a headache, and it feels good to piss them off.
