Features "Snoopy" Model A Hot Rod Survivor

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Denns1989, Sep 8, 2014.

  1. This is such a great story. I have been following this thread the whole time. It is so cool that so much of the car's history has been found and now documented.

  2. I really enjoy the connections / story, fortunate to get so much - About a month ago a guy introduced himself to me at a local show, former auto shop teacher - he was a 6 year old kid who lived across from the original owners brothers house - he never ever forgot seeing Snoopy in the driveway many times & was so happy to see it again - kick myself I didn't get a picture of him..

I'll bet he spent the last 51 years wondering what ever happened to "the one that got away". Little did he know it was stashed away in a garage in the same town it had always lived in.

  4. ^^ For sure, hilarious !! He was past president of the local Rodders Club etc. - had no idea about the whereabouts until he seen me driving it shortly after putting on the road in 2015 - he was "stunned" when he seen me downtown, tried to catch me but lost sight & his buddy got my contact info at a show shortly after - he showed me pictures of the car's he owned over the years, he had some nice rides !!

  5. The signboard made its "debut" at an A&W Cruise Nite last night - it appeared to be well received, noticed many people stopping to read the "story", signboard seems right at home with Snoopy, also had a nice chat with a guy who remembers being on the city bus in the mid 60's when Snoopy passed by with the 2nd owner at the wheel, always remembered the car, love those story's !

  7. Snoopy had a stock shift knob that was stripped when I got it, I had installed a repop Ford / Dallas 1936 knob that I liked, but I somehow forgot about my late father's 8 Ball knob that he had from the early 60's, it's beat to crap as he used it & then it knocked around the drawer of a tool box for many years..
I decided to epoxy the mount hole & tap it out - Wife was not impressed about me following the directions for setting the epoxy in 2 hours at 125 degrees in the oven... ha ha - I'm happy to have something of my late father in my car & think it's battle scars fit the car quite well.

  8. Jer,
You take this "Traditional" ideology to a whole different level!
This thread should be "required reading" for all new HAMBERS!

  10. Forgot to share this video, just shows how an ol' jalopy like Snoopy can roll along @ 60 mph, not to bad eh ?

  11. Gotta love a flathead, unreal hasn't been apart since early 60's, makes me laugh hearing it at idle :)

  13. Great story, cool car and you have the right idea . . . you're kind of a rolling museum owner. It is cool that the ole flathead runs well - was just waiting for a chance to get on the road again. When I found my 32 Cab, it's old 59AB had sat since 1959 - all I did was pull the heads (to check the bores and valves), put new water pumps on it, new oil pump, pulled the pan and cleaned the sludge out of it, new oil pump . . . sprayed WD40 on the carb linkage and fired it up. Just sat there and idled like it had 54 years earlier . . . . amazing. I ran that old engine for the next two years while I built a "new" flathead for it . . . had no problem going 60 mph and showed that having 100 HP in an old Ford isn't too bad!

Glad you found the car . . . it is in the right hands!

Never drove the car without, headed to a local show about 15 minutes away... I'll see how it goes ! 20180609_080327.jpg

  18. Thanks my Dad got that years, ago while we were building the shop & he was poking around an old KMart shop that was being demo'd asking about the light fixtures... the guy sold him all the lights & also offered him his pick of the hoists for 500 bucks more lol

  19. Saw your car at Bruce Mines with the open top, but missed you!

  20. 20180609_105324_resized.jpg 20180609_105340_resized.jpg Going "topless" went very well, I had the windows down & I didn't really notice much more noise/wind than normal, but a nicer view out the top & the straight pipes sound even better !!
Also had a beautifully restored '28 A park beside me, owner was a friendly guy who always wanted an A & made it happen - I love the chance to get a side by side comparison with a stocker, he called mine the rebellious teenager & his the respectable father :) - Good Times had by all.

  21. Last night the Wife & kid were at camp, I got the lawn cut & dog walked, one thing left to do... Take Snoopy out for some exercise, thought I would share a little clip of it on part choke before backing out of the garage... ahhh I love those straight pipes :)

  24. Just took this shot last night as I made a run to gas up & get some excellent summer sausage from nearby General Store, I thought the old store makes a great background !
