Im in the process of restoring a pair of cal custom black finned valve covers for my sbc. Does anybody know what was the original black used in the fin area from the cal custom originals. Was it a flat? Or a Matte? Semi Gloss?

    Thanks

I remember some black wrinkle finish. Really cool when clean. Hard to duplicate as I recall.

I don't recall ever seeing anything but polished from Cal Custom, but wrinkle finish is a "traditional" finish. Can be done at home, but you have to make sure the covers as well as ambient temp's are up.
