I’ve read about how much better a ‘37 Ford steering box is over a ‘36 and thinking I’d like to do a covnersion. But looking at ‘37 steering boxes on ebay, I don’t see where the light switch bracket attaches to the end of the ‘37 steering box am I missing something? I’m hoping to use the original steering wheel with the light switch/horn rod. Any suggestions how to adapt the ‘37 box to accept the ‘36 lught switch? Thank you!
memory says they use the bail to hold the switch against the end of the column on the early ford cars. there is a what looks like a washer with 2 tabs that point down on the end... it may secure the switch to the column... got a '39 in the shed, need pix of it...
The bracket that the light switch housing connects to changed in '37 and is the same to '39 as well as the bale. The mounting holes are offset and not straight across. You need to hunt them down.
Thanks for the replies. Does a light switch housing bracket with bale wire from a ‘36 box bolt to the existing bolts on the bottom of the later boxes? Or is their another bracket I need to hunt down? Sent from my iPad using H.A.M.B.
The end of the steering box column is different. This is the bottom of a 1940 ford and you can see the horn ****on wire hole going thru the shaft.
Thanks for the replies, I now understand the '37 to '39 box is most appropriate for '36 conversion if using the steering wheel light switch. The '40 up boxes do not have provision for the light switch can.
