I'm trying to disassemble my 46 ford pu. Just had a few questions that I thought I would ask. Any help is appreciated.

    1) How does the steering column seperate from the gear box? I took the clamp off that was at the bottom of the column. Next I'm going to pull the wheel off.

    2) My passenger's side door is stuck and I can not get it open. I was going to pull the acces panel off and see what I can do when I get time. Any other tricks that I should know? An how does the window crank come off. I am trying to salvage those too.

    3) What would be the best way to lower the rear end of the truck? The axle is under the spring. The bushings are worn out too. What would you do?

    4) Is there anyone that makes steel running boards? I've been looking but haven't found anything. I have sent off for some more catalogs.

The window (and door latch) cranks have a pin in the post that holds them on. Push the escution center back (the center is spring loaded) to reveal the pin.

As far as the door being stuck, the latches on these have very heavysprings that hold them in the closed position. Between that and some currosion in the latch mechanism, I dont think it would be too hard to freeze one up. Take off the dooor panel. spray some pentrating oil in there, let it sit for a while, and you should be able to get it to unstick. Unfortunately, there are 4 screws that hold that latch in, 2 behind the door panel, and 2 inside the door jam, no way to just pull the whole latch mechanism out. You are to have to free up the mechanism.

I hope to hell that thr latch will work! If it doesn't, what about taking the pins out of the door?

Unfortunately, you only have access to the pin in the bottom hinge. The top hinge has no exposed pin. Keep soaking the latch mechanism with oil, it has to come loose at some point.

The steering column tube wasn't made to be removed from the box.
The rar axel spring mounts can be moved up the frame rails for a lowering job; as well as putting axel on top of the springs.

To clarify, the shaft is integral with the worm gear, but the column jacket unclamps and slides off after you remove the wheel and unlock the steering.

Well I got the stuck door opened this weekend. Took the regulator and glass out and sprayed the lock down with pb blaster. I was going to pull the column out so that I could work on the wheel lock. The wheel is locked and I have no key! Found a way that i could pull the lock out. Slowly getting there. One of the fenders are getting worked on by a fellow hamber.

When I looked under the truck, there seemed not to be enough room to put the axle on top of the spring. I will atke some measurements tues night. Anyone know if 51 ford trans will fit up to a 41 flathead V8? I have two motor connected with two tranmissions. Just thought someone might now before I have to move a bunch of junk to get them out.

First thing, pull the door lock cylinder--set screw in a little hole on edge of door. It should have the key code stamped right on it, and I suspect that will work the column too. If not...
On the column, there's a little pin beneath the lock cylinder driven in flush. Wire brush the right area and you'll see it. Drill, stopping instantly if you see brass shavings, move up drill sizes till you can slide th lock cylinder out and read the code stamped in it.
A '52 pickup trans with big integral bellhousing will go right onto an early flathead. A passenger trans won't.
