I did so too Dave but I just talked to him and he also had a small block Chevy powered car and one with a nailhead Buick. The pictured Fiat is definitely one of his cars and it did have a straight 8 Buick. Sherm is 84 years old and still active building carbs and manifolds and occasionally welding cast iron heads. He first raced at Old Dominion in 1955 and only retired in 2012 when a prior heart attack prevented him from renewing his license. He set either the NHRA or IHRA record a total of 17 times during his racing career. Roo
1947knuck posted this pic of the Shreve Automotive "Hanks Tank" at Amarillo, Tx drags in the Drag Cars In Motion thread a few weeks back. Possibly in the hands of the next owner by this point. Anyone have more on the later history of the car? Is it a survivor?
Well, I don't know about Larry Flint but Hustler Headers was a short lived attempt by Don Rackemann and Carman Pisano to get into the header wars. There was some animosity with Hedman because they also had a performance line called Hedman Huslers. Located in Gardena, Ca, I was about 18 or 19 at the time and worked there until it folded. I had worked for Carman before at Wedge*****tershields but moved to Hustler because I had experience with headers from working at Exhaust Equipment Engineering, a VW header company. Bob Krause was the shop manager and taught me a lot. Bob did all the race car headers and zoomies with me as his apprentice. Oh yeah, Don hired a beautiful buxom redhead to be the receptionist, as a young lad, I was head over heels in lust.
