I have a 1963 Mercury Monterey with a leaking brake booster. The engine idle goes rough when the brake pedal is pressed. If I pinch the vacuum line off then the idle is unaffected when stepping on the the brakes. I've been looking and cant find a rebuild kit for the booster anywhere. Does anyone have experience rebuilding this style of booster or know of an available kit?
It appears to be mostly o-rings inside based on the exploded view. I'm thinking that I will pull the booster, clean it out and replace what parts I can source locally.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The diaphram will most likely have a split in it.... ThatsT the hard part to find.

Also be aware there are two different boosters listed for the car. The length of the pedal pushrod is different. One is 2 7/8 the other is 9 7/8. The longer one is available thru Rock Auto and others.

From the looks of it mine is the 2 7/8 length push rod. The unavailable size.

I found his website, and that is likely an option. I have not contacted them yet, but I did get a quote from a company in Ontario for close to $400cdn to rebuild the booster.

This evening I pulled the master cylinder and it’s leaking into the booster, so I decided to pull the booster and crack it open. Man is it gross in there.

Well, A good cleaning, rinse and Parker O-ring goo seems to have fixed it. Pulled it apart, cleaned it out and re***embled with pretty much all the original parts and the vacuum leak is gone. It’s running better, down shifts smoother and I even have more brake pedal travel.

Have you tried some of the Ford-mercury repop places?

Check Hemmings Motor News for vendors. I have always called them as the old car hobbies bible.
