Yes let's put a Ro7 NASCAR engine as well sound like fun or wait maybe we need to start a yacing mark's nonsense thread Sent from my VS996 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Just joshing @Deuces I have had 28 first gens but truthfully the only one I still own is a 69 396. That may offend the DZ crowd but they aren't on this site now are they?
Maybe you could make a specific Holley recommendation instead. BTW , I hope that poncho is a Holley equipped Ram Air V LOL
We ran a 429 Ford engine in a NASCAR bomber car and that used a 500 Holley 2-barrel, actually we got busted with it one night with a no Holley rule. We put together the same size Autolite 2-barrel and it was just as fast with the Holley. Not sure of the HP, but with the cam it was over 350 since the stock engine was 320.
Ok a Holley 4160 600 single line vac secondary and about a 64-66 jet with a 6.5 power valve sound good to you Yacy carb expert/god And my poncho is a Holley 850 with 78 jets 6.5 power valve in front and 8.5 in rear spreadbore equipped 500 caddy[emoji30] next time I'll get your permission before installing anything oh wise one Sent from my VS996 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
In order to keep my cars on their toes I remind them all the time, "everything's for sale at the right price on any given day". Come to think of it, my wife says something to me very similar from time to time.
You don't have to ask first ...1975 800 Q Jet, 74-5 primary, .041 long tip rear rod, middle hanger K, L, M . You're welcome.
Wow that's exactly what I run on my ot c10 402 chevy Still haven't heard your expert advice for OP except tune up which was already stated in earlier post all is well You just like talking to me? Sent from my VS996 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Quote Yamamine "I have been been using SBC and SBF stock engines, with just an intake upgrade and an edelbrock perfomer carb (600 cfm)." End quote. The key word in your post is "stock". If the suggestions in my first post of this thread did not help, and you truly need to select a different carburetor: Why not consider the STOCK 4-barrel set-up for the engine??? I am not familiar with the 305 (too new for me), but most SBC and SBF engines have 4-barrel options. Why not just duplicate the factory engine? There are some incredibly wise and experienced individuals on this forum, but I would wager that NONE of these individuals have spent one one-hundredth of the resources on any STOCK engine as the original manufacturer. And the original manufacturer had to come up with an engine that worked pretty well in stock form for a variety of categories of drivers (including some whose driving make a really good case for the driverless car! ). Now if you decide to change cams, distributors, heads, etc., etc., etc., that would be a different story. Good luck. Jon.
It was the accelerator pedal. Wasn't pulling WOT because I adjust the pedal for comfort without thinking about throw. Lesson learned. Thanks Rjones35! Sent from my SM-G950U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
It may possibly that the throttle linkage isn't allowing the carb to full throttle. I recently took the Q-jet off the 455 in my convertible and replaced it with a 600 Edelbrock and wished I had done that years ago. The Edelbrock made a new car out of the Olds. Idles better more performance all the way around
SS So you took off a 750 /800 carb ,and replaced it with a 600?...and it runs much better now ? I better p*** on this one. I might be accused of bustin' someone's cojones
Yes, get that. I ran an electric choke Edelbrock 500 on my 1989 305 for years, with a mild cam. It made a fine cruiser. Check your timing, both initial, and total. It might be off.
Glad you found it! Sometimes the obvious reaches out to bite us, kind of like that thorn on the blackberry bush waving in the breeze! Jon.
Kick ***! Thats awesome! I figure if I mess up enough, I'll eventually know everything there is to know.
That 305 is not a performance mill. I have the same trans and rearend gear in my '32 roadster but with a crate 350 vortek with 255 h.p. and an Edelbrock 1406, 600 cfm. That car has enough power to keep it sideways unless I ease up on the gas. It's all relative, but it handles my 2200 lb car PLENTY good.
