IMOBKV3.jpg I posted this memorial graphic I created in the late Bob K's Journey thread and one of his very close friends thread and since this weeks Art Show is in dedication to him I share this here as it reflects a new journey beyond.

I am always moved by the loss here of those around us...whom we have come to know even if many times it is virtual. If anything the loss highlights reason to get out and enjoy our short time here.

    Dedicated to Bob K

    Regards,
    Stogy

    Hello,

We grew up in Long Beach, CA from the early 40s up to 1998. Our cruising hot rod area was within its borders, near the Lions Dragstrip to the Northwest, Bixby Knolls to the East and Belmont Shore to the South and of course, the beach/ocean to the West.

Our hot rod days revolved around Lions Dragstrip and Bixby Knolls. There were different generations of hot rodders that had the same idea, since the very early 50s, cruising around that part of Long Beach.

One of the early racers build a red Altered: The Rasner, Reath, McEwen Fiat A/Altered.

We always thought they would be a great match up against the early version of the Ratican, Jackson, Stearns, blue Fiat A/Altered that we always saw racing at Lions Dragstrip in 59-60.

In March 1960, I filmed a race between two Altereds at the Bakersfield Smokers March Meet. There were a lot of different Altereds running in different cl***es that day. I happen to see the red vs blue Fiat Altereds racing and thought it was the two local Lions race cars in action. It was only the Ratican, Jackson, Stearns blue Fiat against another red Fiat Coupe.

upload_2018-6-29_3-52-45.png upload_2018-6-29_3-53-3.png This was not the actual race between the two, top compe***ors, but the photo shows what it would have looked like back then in early March, 1960.

The Ratican, Jackson, Stearns Fiat A/Altered went through some changes before their winning ways at the 1960 U.S.Nationals in Detroit.

The final shortened wheelbase, changed to 96”, was the right combination for ruling the Altered Coupe cl***.

Most Ford guys would think it's blasphemy to modify an early T-Bird but if it's already got a
Hemi then what the heck I think it would make a great looking custom/race car.
