Very nice why not keep the straight 8 with 2 carb and split exhaust manifold. Drop a od in it and go

I believe its a Special, the hood looks to be the shorter one compared to what my Century looks like to accomodate for the larger engine

My dad had a 37 Buick Century 4 door he replaced the 320 motor with a 1950 320 with 152 hp . The 37 Buick would do a 100 with no sweat .

well isn't that the reason they called them a Century? :)

I will probably enjoy the car as is initially. with all the $$ it would take to upsize the engine and how heavy a 320 straight 8 is it just makes more sense to me to build a nice little 401 and a hd 3 speed Muncie or VP400. A friend of mine built the car below and with that little 401/Variable pitch 400 trans it's a fun car to drive. I have no plans to go as far as he did . he sold that car for right at 20k as seen in the ad and this guy has been trying to sell it for 38k ever since.

I hadn't thought about the weight factor, but I just looked it up, and according to a table I found on "teambuick.com", the 320 is only 3 pounds heavier than the 263 (749 vs 746 lbs). I find that kind of surprising, but still.... That's lighter than a hemi!

Maybe, but I am doubting that big time......I think the difference in weight would be closer to 100 # than 3#, maybe 50#. That is not to say I think either figure given is accurate, just the difference for like stage of 'dress' is what I am referring to. 're 'lighter than a hemi.....not by much...the figure I have seen for a 1st series Chrysler hemi in factory stock dress is around 765#

TeamBuick's specs seem to contradict themselves, note the difference in crankshaft weights as well as flywheel weights

That car is so cool I would hate to see it changed. But if you do make sure you can return it to the way it is now.

I am doing the same thing but my 37 40 Special is a lot rougher. I dragged home a pair of 401s yesterday. I am going open drive and 9 inch with a 5 orc6 speed manual. A hydraulic clutch let's you keep the floor mount pedals.
