If I had your email address I would forward a craigslist ad for a '55 ford courier with a $5000.00 ask. Search craigslist:cars & trucks: California:inland empire. It might just be the right car, but not sure how shipping would be arranged. Really too bad about your courier; hope insurance can mitigate your loss.

Whoops. Spoke too soon. That particular '55 sedan delivery is no longer posted on Craigslist today. Must have finally sold. But I would think any '55 ford sedan or wagon parts car would suffice. Perhaps check Craigslist ads on the east coast of USA. I had a '56 ford courier many decades ago. Was a great car but had terminal rust issues. Good luck.

  3. Well, that's a drag.... You're sorta lucky, everything you need is 'generic' i.e. can be gotten off almost any '55 Ford, most '56 Ford parts will also fit although you may have to weld up extra trim holes and probably do some rust repair given how these like to rust out below the headlights and at the lower edge. You might even be able to save the grill and splash pan. Start searching 'parts for sale' listings....

The shipping to Scotland will be the really tough part.

  4. I'm not sure how many 55's were exported to Europe back in the day. There may still some spares on your side of the pond so that might be an option.

Would a 2 dr. ranch wagon (or maybe even a 4 dr. wagon) be the same? Might be easier to find than the Courier

  6. All the parts he needs are the same for any '55 Ford except convertible and Crown Vic. All the front sheet metal is the same for any '55. Could even use a '56 fender if the Courier has Mainline trim (no chrome on the sides), just weld up the trim holes. Windshields are the same all '55 and '56 except convertibles, Crown Vics, and '56 hardtops. The grille halves unbolt in the middle, so he only needs half of a grille. All of the '55 Couriers I ever saw came with either Mainline or Customline trim. Probably 90% + were in Mainline trim. Never saw a Courier with Fairlane trim, though I am sure Ford would have built one special order if a funeral home wanted one for a flower car or something. Lots of '55 Ford experience here. I have a '55 Fairlane 4 door my parents bought new. Always wanted a Courier, don't see many. Very sad about the accident and the damage to your Courier, but at least you are alive and able to contemplate fixing it.

Thanks for the help so far guys. The courier is definitely worth saving as it’s a 14000 mile from new car in rust free condition. I’ll try the y block guys thanks.
