HI all! I'm looking through some old titles for projects I have accumulated and came across a title for one of my 53 buicks. The numeric sequence seems odd and was wanting to see if I could gain some knowledge. It's an 8 digit Vin (which is correct for that year but it's seems "vague " if that makes sense. It's number is 2700064x. The x is actually a numeric digit but for sake of putting it out there I will just omit that. Is it just an early build car? All i can find is that the first digit indictates build Plant, which in this case would be California. Any clues?
according to one source I have, it should be 276xxxx. but the fun question is, do you have a car that matches the title? if so, what does the tag on it say?
Yes, the number on the title matches the tag on the body. Its a complete. very solid 53 out of arizona.
But just to clarify, this number in question is on the stand-alone silver stamped plate in the drivers door jamb, not off of the data cowl tag under the hood.
are these "VIN" tags same type of silver as one that you are questioning? - maybe car was stolen at one point and to get it registered a new number was assigned - go to a Buick Collectors site and look for help there - there are sites that can help locating VIN tag info -
According to one of my books, B-53 serial numbers for Southgate ran from 26765001 thru 27214776. That would put your 2700064x number pretty much in the middle of the model year.
Pretty good explanation here. https://www.hometownbuick.com/1953-buick/1953-buick-body-tag-decode/ It goes right with what WQ58B said about it being built in South Gate/
