A buddy of mine is building a '49 Caddy. About the bottom half of the car is rotten, and he was wondering if any companies were making any patch panels for these, or if we were going to have to make them all from scratch. Also if anyone knows of any other patch panels that are available that are close enough, that could be made to work. Thanks in advance, Barn-core.
Hey, Check with the old car-restoration guys into Olds and Buick. The big GMs of this era used very similar panels. Given as how these things wern't as plentiful as Shoeboxes or Chevys, you'll probably be fabbin' those panels. S****ey Devils C.C.
Most of the GM cars (of the same model) floor pans/floor sheetmetal interchange..I am building a '48 Cadillac Sedanet...my trunk floor was gone and the rear tailpan rotted from sitting on the ground for many years...I went to the junkyard, measured and used a '49 Buick fastback trunk floor in mine...it was identical and fit without a problem, even the trunk driprails matched... As far as I know, there is no replacement (new) sheet metal...if you find some let me know... R-
That's Ed Cholakian's place in Sylmar. He has the stuff, no doubt. But be prepared to pay through the nose for it. He is EXPENSIVE.
Thanks for the leads guys. I'll tell him about the Cad place in Sylmar. Anyone have any contact info, or a website.
I've got a front fender for my '54 Caddy coming from this salvage guy in/via Canada. Canadian $ conversion charge made a nice dent in my credit card bill and it has taken 9 weeks to get it, but it was just impossible to find good sheetmetal out there. http://www.cl***iccaddies.com/new_page_1.htm Check a Hemmings magazine and you'll find others--you have to just call each one and catch them at the right time because their inventory/access seems to change fairly often. FYI, the fender ran me $650 after factoring in shipping. ****s, but I've got to have one and I wanted it as rust-free as possible.
