The cameras were not on for the first pass, but here is all of the on-car video from the other two runs:

    Yee Haw is right!
Also, did a double take for a split second Brian, seeing the engine running and no plug wires on the street distributor is kind of weird.

That last one, looked and sounded like it got a little throttle when you were out of the groove.

My friend says there’s been a few horrible crashes there in the last couple years when getting out of the groove. They just had the track closed to repair two big holes from where two cars hit each other.

Wow, that 2nd one was scary. It seemed like you had it under control, then suddenly the back end broke loose. Brian, can you give us a play by play of what happened?

It sounds like it idles higher after the burnout, it that normal?

  9. Note to self, clean shorts needed.

  10. For the play by play color comentary here goes. The first pass of the day was just a burn out and a part throttle walk down the track to make sure everything worked.
Pass two the idle is higher than normal. We were working on that in the pits. We are still not sure why it's doing that. We have a few more things to check out. We left kind of soft. It shifted fine. The engine went flat in the upper rpm range. When It feels like a rev limiter comes on its usually too rich. At the stripe the car moves hard right. I pulled the chutes to straighten it out. I'm glad I have two now. It oiled the drivers side of the car and soaked the tire. We found the oil pressure sensor that screws directly into the oil galley had some how fell off. With 100 plus pounds of pressure behind it the oil was blowing out of a 1/8 pipe hole. I had a plug so we put it in for the next pass. We went through alot of brake cleaner to clean things up.
Pass three the idle is lower and the car left harder hiking the front end. The 60 foot times were much improved. A few hundred feet out it drifted to the right. I let off and put it back in the groove like I always did in the 65 dodge. The car responded well for a second then went hard right. I thought it was lost. Then went hard left. I thought this is going to hurt. It felt like I was going to spin out or roll over. Then back hard right. When I got it stopped I just shut it off. A few lessons here. This isn't the dodge if it ever gets loose in the future the run is over. We all push the limits to find out were that is and we found it.

  13. Mr unswitchable is the grandson of the driver of dick jesses Mr. Unswitchable early Pontiac funny cars. He was my son's collage room mate. He drives a corvette funny car called the schiester. When you watch the videos see how calm he is on the line. There is zero arm waving or jumping around. Thats how i like it.

Looks like a lot got learned in those runs. Glad to see that you and the car came out ok. Hopefully I get to see it at the Meltdown.

  15. I've been watching this thread since the first post, rarely commenting, just taking it all in as it is explained in fair detail (thanks for that). This car is such a monster and just watching the videos is exciting. Glad that sideways run wasn't another huge set back for you.

Wow! What a handful. Nice job saving it. Can’t wait to see it at the meltdowns. What % nitro are you running it at?

  17. A few things helped save the car. The steering box is a 63 corvair. It's a very slow steering box. This helps in not over correcting. The proper length steering arms help slow the steering to. The corvair box was a standard piece on early funny cars. The other thing is my rear tires. Most guys go with bigger is better. I go against that thinking here. Those big tires don't slide very well. They hook and flip cars over. The big mushy side walls dont help either. On the video my tires slide. The car lifts a few inches but I am able to steer it. The seats while not all that comfortable keep me stable so I can steer. With the belts pulled tight I'm not flopping around inside as the car is bouncing. There are ways to give yourself a chance to not crash. Not panicking or freezing helps to

  18. It was on 75 peecent.

  19. A pic of the oiled tire. The car was a mess. Also a pick of the drivers side engine. This is at the mid plate. The braided hose goes to the oil pressure gauge. The hole is were the efi sensor screwed in. That's a big hole for alot of oil to come out under pressure. 20180707_145802.jpg 20180707_155929.jpg

Do you think you have the tuning the way you like it? It sounds good

Much respect Brian. I always loved going fast, but that car is way be on my comfort zone. Glad your figuring out the limits of that monster. Wild Willy would be proud! Be safe Larry

  22. Good job not letting that run totally get away from you. Many drivers would have had much worse results then yours.

Looked like Saturday night the dirt track. Had the rear end all hung out. Nice driving!

I watched the rear view on both runs a couple times each. The blower belt reminded me of Smokey's description of a timing chain, "doing the hootchie cootchie over here for a while and then over there for awhile." Does it always do that? Also it may be a little deceiving but it actually looks like it slows down under power. I think it might be a strobe effect of the camera (kinda like a timing light).

Thanks for the play by play, Brian. Good job keeping the shiny side up. You looked very busy cranking the wheel, too busy to pull the chute. I can't imagine all the thoughts that raced through your mind when you thought you were going to crash. Good luck on the continued sorting process.

Damn, Brian. You’re supposed to drag race this coupe, not drift it. Nice job keeping it right side up.

  26. we are still working on the nozzle stagger. we need a few more hits on it. the engine is very rich in the front four cylinders. when thats set we could add more nitro or add more boost. we have a starting point now we will make some moves. joel you are right on the chutes. i needed a third hand. the blower belt looking funny is do to the camera.

WOW WOW from a bad crash several months ago to running hard again NICE WORK. And GOOD DRIVING.

Just as a precaution look at the two videos from the front axle to the rear view. The passenger side slick looks like it has a bulge or "flap" hanging out you can see it very well in the first rear view one pulling up to the line and a little less in the second because it's getting darker. And again in the video Cara Marie posted above this post you can see it best when you stop down the track and start to reverse it is still visible.

At first I though maybe a wet spot from the water trough but it never goes away.

Believe me I'm NOT BEING CRITICAL I just want you to be safe and not have problems with a bad tire. :)

Got some time and grabbed some screen shots of that tire. It is MOST noticeable in the first video when backing up at the 0:32-0:39 mark it really sticks out. But it is visible in all of the videos. It looks like the edge of a recap that is starting to separate but I know it isn't.

And it never goes away like a wet spot would.
