There is so much talent on the H.A.M.B. and I’ve enjoyed looking at all the project models. Thanks everyone for sharing. I don’t do models but have two Cub Scouts. Funny, I was at my parents house on the Fourth and my dad finally let me have my old one that's been in a box hidden away since about 1995.
Almost looks like my dinning room table lol. I got some paint laid on my 39/40 Tudor for the TRAK Autorama
Deuces thats my wife's favorite movie. She prefers the black and white version. We went to a showing of it here in Wilmington NC at UNC one year and Frank Capras son did a short discussion about the movie before hand. His memories of his dads work on the movie, casting, and so on. Pretty interesting.
Current projects: The 50 Bel Air diecast is the 2nd of 2 I somehow acquired so I decidedto take it apart and change it.
Been a while since I worked on mine but I am near completion. Yep it does even though white is a pita to airbrush. I even used white primer to help with coverage and it was still a pita. Red was too cause for me the hood looks darker red than the rest of the car. I been holding off placing the 300 HP decal on the hood till after I clear the main body to see how that red looks if it looks close I will let it ride. otherwise I will grab my spare hood from my second kit and respray it. My goal is to spray it with 2K clear get it nice and glossy then come back and paint the edges of all window areas in rubber black to get a weather strip look. Then go on the interior with semi gloss black and paint the back side of the pilliars for the interior color. But this is my first build in like 20 years. I did a lot of things on this I never done before. Such as micro detail painting, adding spark plug wires with correct firing order, use of 2K clear coat, the use of semi gloss clear coats, the use of CA glue, and even Microsol and Microset decal solution. All in an attempt to get myself ready for my '56 Victoria kit that I am going to kit bash into building my '56 Fairlane Town Sedan using an aftermarket Club Sedan body as my base. Might buy this kit again if the frame looks close enough as it has poseable steering. Would work great on my second '57 Ford Fireball Roberts kit as I want to build a diorama of Jerry Unser`s #92 racing on pikes peak. Got a cool color photo of him sliding around a corner that I would love to try some diorama material that exist now but didn't 20 years ago.
I use Tamiya gloss white and gloss red.No problem airbrushing after I thin it with 70 % isopropyl alcohol through my Paasche VL double action and D500 compressor.
That's the colors I used, X7 Tamiya Red and X2 Tamiya White. I thinned them with Tamiya thinner to be safe. I prethinned the whole bottle as per how Andy states to prethin Tamiya paints for airbrush over on YouTube. Says to fill the bottle of Tamiya paint with thinner up to the line on the inside of the bottle and it is now pre mixed for spraying. Im using a refurbished Eclipse airbrush with a Eastwood oil-less airbrush compressor. Works great its just the coverage wasn't good and I had issues with the paint drying fast so I couldn't get a nice smooth layer was looking more like over spray. I haven't had a chance to try it but one guy told me I should try turning my pressure down more. Im already spraying at 15 PSI as it is but going to try dropping pressure down even more. Lots are telling me spray around 5 to 8 psi to avoid the over spray look as the pressure is drying the acrylic paint before it hits the model.
The D500 puts out about 15 psi.I thin the paint to the consistency of milk and hold the airbrush about 4 inches from the surface and move the airbrush fast ,pushing the lever back to start the paint flow just before it hits the model.Produces a nice even finish!The last coat I add a little more thinner to allow the paint to flow and even itself out!
I got this incomplete diecast Hubley 32 Chevy in a trade.Missing the trunk lid so I cut a piece of styrene and clamped it to achieve the correct curvature.The plan is to immerse it in boiling water and allow it to cool.
Okay it worked,dunked it into the boiling water for a 20 count.Just to make sure it retains its shape,I glued the rumble seat to the decklid.
