Should have towed it to a scrapyard in Eau Claire where they could tear the topside off in a few seconds. Alter can run it through their shredder. I'm sure some scrapper would take what's left. Many of those got hot and burned. Tell your friend to call Jeff Lyberg. http://junkyard.recycleinme.com/jy-Lyberg-s-Scrap-And-Recycling-288-junksell/home.aspx
maybe i can have it taken out of there, cause my buddy lives a ways away. instead of paying to bury it lol
thats the plan my man! i been scouting for a 32 frame for a long time as well as a 3 window or 32 anything here is the front end i have but im unsure what its out of
Front end looks to be T era. A sawzall will take care of cutting that rv down to size real quick. When I needed a trailer for my sailboat my buddy gave me an old travel trailer that they had sitting on their place and I cut the body apart in sections, stripped the metal off and sold it for scrap and hauled the rest of the body panels to the dump stacked up like sheets of plywood. There isn't a lot of structure on those old ones as the framework for the shell is often wood. Since the rig looks like it was wrecked rather than just towed in and parked you may luck out on the engine and trans.
thats waht i was thinking, 27'? but whats weird is, isnt the wishbone supposed to be the other way below the steering linkage? looks backwards to me
Good on the Motorhome score. I have a 85, 36' rig with the same set up. Its a runner too. I, say buy the motor, drive it to its destruction. Right now its a great shed, that "could" move. This thread has me thinkin though. And you KNOW THAT AINT RIGHT!
I still have the engine and its next up on the list. I had about 1000 laps on it in 20 or so races and it spun a main bearing. I had never done anything to the lower end. The heads are a good number like I said and I'll go the valve job and spring route. I have a couple of Howard's roller cam kits earmarked for it, pistons and rods are picked out too. This one will be far from free with the new goodies and upgrade from a 396 to 427 with the crank change.
I realize this "what to do with a 454 thread has gone 3 pages before I stumbled onto it , but let me suggest a different direction. Lots and lots of guys are looking for complete RV rolling chassis with engine and trans. A very popular path for many guys with older traditional trucks......especially COE Chev and Ford trucks it to take the great old bodies and set them on exactly the running gear setup you have. Scrap all the "RV" debris and advertise the running gear for $2000......then go buy whatever big or small block you want.....and maybe even some random 32 Ford stuff.........just thinking outside the box.
Get a tow truck back there and have guy yank the Motor out for you.... And load it in the back of a pickup.....
Don't plan on using that 'T' front axle...nor that '38 Chevy frame under a '32 roadster body. Some things just 'will not stand'! (-The Dude Lebowski, & Geo. H.W. Bush...)
That's a Model T front axle. Sell it to a guy restoring a T. It's not going to work for your application. I would ditch the Chevy frame as well unless you are going to put a 38 Chevy body on it. That would look really effed up under a deuce.
Just fyi, an 8.1 496 gen 7 is a completely different animal than the earlier big block. I think the only thing's that interchange are the timing set and maybe the bearing's. ( all metric thread's also) A mild 454 in something light is all kind's of fun.
Within the last 6 mo's or so, CC MAG did the same thing, from a M-home..... They spent about what your willing to, and were rewarded with good numbers..... If I had it in front of me, i'de scan it for you...... Find the article, and read........ Results were very surprising....... 454 with some love added...... Nothing crazy, but I recall about 3-4K, and over 650 hp from stock betty....... But- you'de have to check yourself. Initial investment is a plus+, allowing further upgrades........ Go man Go!
Those motor home chassis are popular with the cab over guys. I bet you could sell it quick on the Killer COEs and 1Tons FB page We plan on installing one of those chassis under an old bread truck soon I used the clip from one under my bus
Like the squirrel said, peanut port heads and 2 mains; just like my 454 "was". There's a thread over on YellowBullet.Com by a machinist who reworks the peanut port heads, uses them on his test mule 68/69 Chevelle, and is knocking on 9 second ET's. Now mines a fully roller cammed, 468 CID motor, with larger valves and completely reworked ports on 781 casting heads. Still on the engine stand due to "hunny-do projects". That TH-400 probably has an extension housing mounted parking brake. Just swap out the extension housing and use a conversion yoke. The ONLY reason I went with this BBC, was the TORQUE they have; only had one other BBC that ended terribly; completely exploded the motor, well my partner did. Bracket II/Sportsman Class, here I come. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
I'm glad a couple guys mentioned just stripping the body off and using the whole chassis under a vintage truck, pretty popular to do and people looking for that chassis. Back to the motor, more than likely peanut ports but I've heard of big ovals on a few too. Several people have made 700hp on 2 bolt mains and it will definitely be a mark lV, but not sure where your "W" came from in front of porcupine. If it is the th475 you can buy a $100 dollar slip yoke to replace the bolt in yoke but it's overall shorter so make sure your driveshaft measurements are spot on. I've got a few big blocks, th475 and th400's myself, great stuff !
I recently acquired a 454 bbc with th400 as well. Stock with M/T valve covers. Casting # on my block is 361959. Do not have the head #’s yet. Cast header #’s come up as (police style). Link here>>.http://outintheshop.com/faq/casting/castings2.html Edit: Intake# - 340218 Head #’s - 336781 . Looks like oval port heads for me.
If it is a 2 bolt main just put studs in the mains and you will be able to make lots of power with it. I built a 477 out of a 2 bolt block . Used a stock steel crank and a set of Eagle rods with some used dome pistons , used .710 lift solid roller and a Crower stack injection . It ran 5.80's on alky and 5.30 on spray 1/8 th mile in a 2700 lb. Nova. So many good used parts out there because guys are building really big motors and 454 is like a small block in todays world.
So for heads and cam, what you guys think I should get? I have been looking at so many different combos.. would like something boarder line strictly track and sometimes street. More strip than street. Just having a hard time deciding Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I found the issue of CC Mag I had mentioned. My #'s were off a bit, but a good read, and the same deal as what you have...... Possibly worth a read. March 2018. Hopefully sheds some light, and options.
Ya I been reading some of these 454 cheap build articles. And they are really informational but leaves me wondering which routes to take Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
