Guess I'd start there. And you may get bumped to another forum. I haven't seen that problem personally. Best of luck.

  3. I've been wondering that myself, I assume that the pics were saved in something that expired. There are some long ongoing threads that have lost a lot of the pics and thats a shame, we can't ask people to repost them that would be ridiculous. Hopefully we can find an answer.

I’ve seen this too. No matter how many times you correct a link, it Xs them. It’s a H.A.M.B. problem, not you.

I had that problem..... It's the HAMB app. I deleted the app and use my browser to access the HAMB and no more problems. Took me a while to figure it out too !!!

I use Tapatalk for mobile and the method they upload to works fine. Just FYI in case anyone wants to try it.

    Hello,

Most of those people that have left the HAMB over the years used to have the webservice that caterers to storing photos in the cloud. When the person leaves, or his photo service locks the cloud access, then the red X shows up on the photos that were posted on the threads. Where is the cloud? Probably out in the Arizona desert, under the ground, in a huge building with a large storage facility. Or in a simple looking building in an old industrial complex with razor wire on top of the fence... Ha!

We won't name the largest offender, but the photo storage place was once free, then for a small low cost the following years to a larger amount which turned off a lot of people. So, their photo storage was held in "prison" until the fees were paid. Once they were paid, if ever, then the photos were ok to post again and/or if the person was smart enough, took the photos out of the cloud service. Since a lot of the photos were copied photos from the internet, they are still locked if the fees were not paid.

Where to put anyone's photo collection for safe keeping? If you want direct access to those files, store them on your computer for no "X" situations. The website will have access to those digital files, so no X's. But, if your computer hard drive is getting slow, your drive is over 1/2 filled, then time to seek out an external hard drive that is small and large. Small enough to fit in anyone's jacket pocket for emergencies take aways and large enough in size to store a ton of stuff. 4 TB is slightly larger than a cigarette pack and thinner. The cost these days is relatively low.

As long as you keep the photo files active, there will not be any red X on a website. I had changed the color of the original photo in a photo program I had. When it got saved on my computer, the red x showed up on the HAMB. Why? HAMB access no longer had the original posted photo archives to seek. So, the red X popped up. Luckily, I had the original on an external hard drive and added the original back to my computer files. No more red X's showed up for me.

Sometimes, the cloud is handy as the Iphone services automatically save photos from the phones to their Apple cloud. If the individual storage gets full, as it will, then there is a cost. So, be aware. My son tried to get all of his photos out of the cloud and it takes forever to access and remove those files... another thing to think about.

We have nothing of value in the cloud. All of our hot rod/drag racing files are backed up in external hard drives with direct access anywhere in the world.
upload_2022-2-5_9-0-55.png Yes, even this old hot rod photo is safely stored away on our hard drives. They are all in three external hard drives to take when it is time to evacuate for whatever reason, fire, earthquake or ??? YRMV

  9. You can thank Photobucket for the RED X'S They offered free storage for years and then all of a sudden they wanted huge monthly fees and held the photo's hostage, pay the fees and they release the photo's. HRP
