Get him in that car every time you can, you can't pay him back enough. He'll live longer and better, he may not be able to build anymore but long as he can walk, he can ride, and you'll bring him a lot of pleasure.
Wow, what a kool thing you did for him. I can't say enough good things for your actions. Next year at this time will my 8th decade of being here and believe me these little jesters like this mean tons to us old boys with toys.
Good man,it's gratifying to take your mentor for a spin,I'm sure the day will not be soon forgotten. HRP
So Cool! My mentor wasn't able to ride in my car sadly, but I think of him every time I fire it up, and every time I cut a panel on a new project
The student showing off his work, bet you made him Proud! Did he give you a grade? A+ would be my guess. Drive on, sirs.
A few years ago there was an older WW II vet living near me who "walked" the neighborhood taking photos of things he liked. Photography was his hobby. One day he saw my 40 and took a bunch of photos all the while telling me how he remembered cars like mine from when he was a young man after the war. I said, "Jump in and let's go for a ride." It made his day as if it were 1945 again. A few days later he stopped by and gave me 8x12 photos he had made. Sadly, he p***ed away from Azlheimers last year. He couldn't remember the ride.
That's a great thing you did, a lot of young people disrespect and don't bother with the elderly. They don't realize that they'll be old some day if they're lucky enough to make it to that age. I was fortunate to have a parents that taught me right from wrong. I worked with a lot of older guys, many of them WW2 vets, that taught me my job. One guy who had fought at the battle of the Bulge always used to say " It's a good day any time you wake up on this side of the ground" when I'd ask him how he was doing. May he rest in peace.
Proud of you both, great stuff, hopefully others will see the light and mentor others. Pay it forward.
Just too cool! ,To spend time with the old timmers,my mentors were mostly my older brothers,I learned a lot from them that Still rings in my ears, Thank you Jack,Tim,And Terry. Good things you do . Made my day.
