    Your so sweet!
Your wish might come true soon enough. My folks head to Florida every winter now and have a condo just south of kisemmee (sp?). They have been bugging me and my sister to visit them over the winter and we're thinking that Feb might be the perfect time. If so, we'll certainly plan a meet and greet.:D

Don't forget the 143-tooth (Mustang II) parts too. :) And the different balance between an early 289/302, late 302, and 351W, all of which require the right flexplate with the right bellhousing.

There is a reason people shy away from this stuff.

    Hey, what do I know, I'm putting a '66 289 in my 1957 Plymouth. ;)

Lack of imagination and using the easy way out. Those are pretty much reasons to use a SBC in your rod project.

It's alway unusual to see a Ford mill in a Ford car.

    my stable has these late model Ford powered rods;

I can't remember anyone ever telling me building a Hot Rod is easy,....... if you want a Ford engine in your car figure it out and get to it,... if you want a chevy or want to take the path of least resistance,...... go for it.
I have used both,... but for a car for myself I would rather have a Ford engine, ( hence the two big buckets of pullies )

i think it comes down to building a smart engine, everyone thinks that k code this and cobra that and boss this. besides the different variety in a few of the heads, like closed or open port, or the head cc and the high breathers (boss/cleveland/fe) in a cl*** of their own, most them motors with all the fame were bumping compression, with the early heads or running flattops.. i had some guy try to tell me there was a difference between the 69 351w heads i sold, between 2bbl and 4bbl, no, they are 60cc, the difference in them motors was the pistons, and for a street app, the 289 heads flow as good as the later heads with a little port work, and you can gain well over a whole compression point. i ran '66 289 heads on a cammed 351w once for ****s and giggles, never got a chance to drive it unfortunately, but basically what i built was a 289 stroked. also there is a wide variety of stroker kits and such or the knowledge is out there, just too many people not willing to do the research in my opinion. the power to be had is in bumping the compression and camm'n it smartly, getting it to breathe right. no different than everyone wanting the camel hump chevy heads from the guy who wants a set of dove heads or late sixties early 70's small block heads. if you are building a 302, chances are you are looking for a 302 intake, and could care less the 351w or c intake dont fit. i personally am not building motors lately to be insane, just cruisers, but i hope someday i get that itch to build ford power again to the bones so i can spank some of the others. i also hope to build a chevy someday with a ford mill for ****s and giggles.
with the small block being in production so long, there is a slew of parts, some of them newer stangs are pretty insane when it gets kicked in the ***. anyone running power steering, go yank the front ***embly off a 89 or so ford full size gran marquis or something, the serpentine system works and looks sweet. me, i just found a few extra pulleys and swapped the alt gear to put one on my 351c i had, but it all bolted right up to the 302 when i had to swap back w/no p/s. late 80's also had dizzy covers that are nice dressup items and keep the water out. i grab em at boneyards and got a few laying around. there are many tricks to be had with the small block, just not as popular and there are WAY too many myths out there like gt40? whatever. check out them ports on a cleveland or boss 302,.. oooohrah.. but they can look just as pretty too.

the big myth about 351 ,2 bbl, and 4bbl heads , that not many people knew the 69,351 block was a .023 shorter deck height. that was where the compression was. since i decked all of my rebuilds anyway, i had the compression.

    Hes not lying! :p

But seriously.......I dont know how it works either. The toughest part was getting the bellhousing and water pump to work on the wrong ends of the motor.

I really wanted an oldsmobile rocket or a buick nailhead for my car but i couldn't afford it. I knew i didnt want an SBC so I went with the Ford.

After having put the 302 in my car, I really don't see a whole lot of difference from the SBF to the SBC.

Yeah, things where a little tougher than putting a chevy in it but not so bad that a Small Block Chevy should be in every single street rod or hot rod on the road.

I have nothing against chevy motors, in fact theres one in 2 of the 3 cars we have right now, but lets get back to the point.......Fords.

I dont fore-see the motor getting changed out in my car anytime soon. It runs good, it sounds good with the headers open and more people compliment me (and tease me!...........rudy..........)than if I had a boring ol chevy motor. Actually, if i knew the first thing about them, i think a y-block would be radical in my car, all dressed up like the one in "zootkandy's" dads car.

As a kid, 12-13 years old, I got to go to a manufactures funny car meet at OCIR in 1969 or 1970.
I think the teams were evenly divided between Ford, Dodge, Plymouth, Chevrolet, might have been a Mercury team also. By the end of the night when the smoke had cleared Gas Ronda won the event.
Almost positive the car was SOHC powered.

My avatar is Chevy powered Plymouth with a Willys nose. My latest is a small block Ford powered Morris minor because the Ford is narrower and lighter and the distributor is in the front.
Makes just as much power as the small block Chevy with the right parts. Whatever works.
To the guy with the 69 Nova 396-375 , did you price a Torino Cobra ? Ford's answer to the Road Runner. They could be had stripped down with nothing more than a ram air 428 Cobra Jet, 4 speed and 4.57 9inch with a locker. The price was much less than a Mustang if you knew what boxes to check.

Well my 23 Center Door has a 302 and C4 sitting in it and is all tucked up under that very very narrow hood, as said above, being narrower and the dizzy at the front makes it work, It runs great too.
So to keep up with my Center Door, I fitted a .........302 and C4 into my Ford 41 COE, and personally I couldn't be happier.
However I did stray a couple of times and installed a 327 in my sons Model "A" Tudor and a 350 in my "T" Coupe, both hoodless.

I think 4.30 was as low a rear gear you could get from the factory. To get those you would have to get a drag-pack or SCJ package with either 3.91 or 4.30. But in any case a SCJ formal roof Cobra would be a player thats for sure.

    Interesting topic.
I agree w those sayin that chevys are cheap and plentiful. My guess is thats the only reason. I dont think its that people hate ford motors.

When i was young (80s) , there was a guy with a..68?..69?.. torino with a 429(or 428?), 'super cobra jet' (sorry im a chevy guy.) With a 4 speed, posi...

Anyway, the car said "white lightning " on the back. And this thing was SICK.
Riding in it was just nuts. You could feel the violence coming from that motor.
Tall geared rear (cant recal ratio), but white lightning was the 'light to light champ' for a few years in that little town.
May be wrong but i think it got totalled.

Always loved that sick *** car though.
Anyhoo..end of my story. Carry on.

Here’s my all FORD contribution. When I first built it , it was 69 LT1 powered . I was fighting stage 4 Cancer and just wanted to take a ride in it . I built it with extra parts I had from my 37 Chebby coupe . LT1 400 turbo , once I started on the recovery stage , that was gone . It went in a buddy’s 16 year old son’s S10 drag truck . 11.30 times . I built a roller 302 , changed to dinosaur hot rod parts ( fuel pump , carb, points ) . The LT1 would pull harder from a stop , but top on the 302 seems unlimited . I have grown past the age to drive anything has anymore , just place to place and enjoy myself . It’s all about the b*** anymore ! 64828DED-0BF7-4937-BAFA-40293802BB85.png
