    Ive been thinking about making my comet into a wild 60s kustom, im really into the canted quad headlight style. Has any body put quad headlights in there car, what are some things i will have to do? I would like also to make full roll pans also. im not sure what kind of headlights im going to use yet, but any tips would be helpful. thanks nate

  2. If you want canted quads, you will need to get a section of the fender from the donor car, and graft these sections to your front fenders. not to discourage you, but i'm not sure how canted quads would look on a car as "squarish" as a comet. As for the roll pans, that's relatively easy. I did both ends of my 62 Ranchero, it was cheap and easy. I've seen pictures of your work, I'm sure you can pull it off...

    Do you have any pics of your roll pans? ive seen one falcon with quadhead lights and i dint think it looked too bad, anybody have any pics of 60s car with canted quadheadlights? thanks nate

  4. I don't have any pictures on file, I'll go out and take some. Check back in a couple hours.....I think canted lights on a Falcon would work, but isn't the comet a lot more squared off?

    I think the Comet with the canted "cats eye" tail lights would look like a natural with canted headlights,
    It might require lowering, changing or getting rid of the front bumper but the '59 Chevy headlight door (that's what the trim around a headlight is called) would be the easiest to adapt with a conduit hoop to form the opening shape just don't put them too high or too wide for a good flow and do use the exact same angle as the tail fins. I thiink the outside light should end up centered under that rib that runs along the top of the fender.

    There are some school busse currently being made with a similar headlight door so if you cant come up with the Chevy ones, try some buss lights. or some Peterbuilt quad lights, no not the whole bucket just the bulb carrier part and the trim.

    I think the '62 Chrysler or late 5s lincoln ones would bee too tall for the Comet's front end though.

    I think you could run them higher than that, by cutting them into that "eyebrow" sort of like this Ozzy truck has them in the pan. (picture it upside down) plus you could either make a crescent shaped scoop next to the lights or reshape and tuck/cant that fender in in front of the wheel like the truck is;

  15. Here's the front. It also shows my nine dollar tube grille, made from conduit.Portland winter hasn't been kind to it, it needs to be repolished....

    I tend to agree with you Doc on the need to preserve the same angle as the taillights take but I don't know if you could successfully move the light higher without doing an extreme amount of fender reshaping.You would almost have to lose the character line completely on the side,and yes definitely center the top lamp on the fender peak.
    As an alternative Nate you might consider making the right and left upper beams in a single pod in the center of the grille opening and using a 60 Merc grille.You could utilize the 59 Chevy(or the schoolbus;easier to find)headlight doors and form the grille opening with 1/2" round rod.Maybe even mold the bumper in an make it all one piece.Just a thought.

  18. I don't mean to be negitive, but I wouldn't do it. The car looks better with the stock headlights. To me the canted lights make the front end look thick, and chunky. The stock lights make it look wider and lower. I'd go with a thinner bumper, roll a pan and build a new grille. The canted lights look like your changing it just for the sake of change. Just MHO.

    Nate, I think your car could lend itself to restyle, but not canted quads. This is what I think would look killer on your car. I'd mimic the body line at the front of the hood & fenders, Below the headlights and work in a rolled pan below that. 60 buick headlight bezels or a single 54 Merc bezel frenched on each side. With a tube or 58-59 buick grille. This is just my opinion but Ithink it would look cool.
