  1. I'm trying to help my friend Dave get set up to join in on the fun here on the hamb,,,,,,but, his screen seems real dark......is there something we can do besides use the select button on the front of the screen........it's an old Hewlett Packard....M50 (PAVILION)

Not being a real computer whiz,,, i'm at a loss. [IMG]HRP

  2. Should be 2 wheel/knob on it somewhere to turn, one for contrast, one for brightness. Mine's under the front of the monitor, some are on the back or sides.

Also, if he has any Adobe photo editing program on his computer, you will have to go into the Adobe gamma thing and follow the instructions until the colors, brightness and contrast looks right. HTH

Most monitors have done away with the brightness knob for years. If you cant get it better with the arrow controls or its menu then pull the cover off. There is often a brightness control that can be tweaked with a screwdriver. Be careful, lots of HV inside. This is usually a stop gap measure as low intensity is a sign of the tube wearing out.

If no luck then its past its usefull life; get a new one.

Look for some buttons on the front of the monitor.Might be behind a movable panel.
Try to find a button with a lightbulb beside it.That should control brightness.

    Here are some more ideas.

If you have turned up the settings on the monitor and it still isn't bright enough.

i am assuming that the operating system is windows 98 or newer.

    1. find your desktop and right click it in an open space.
    2. Select Properties
    3. Select Settings
    4. Select Advanced
    5. Look in the tabs for something that looks like "color correction" or "gamma correction"
    6. Adjust levels to help

    7. upon finding such things don't exhist ask for help again

    Hope that helps
    Garth
