I have always wanted to do a trip from Mexico (Mo) to Mexico on Highway 54, and try and eat at all the 54 Dinners.

  4. I can ***ure you that Indiana doesn't have much to offer. But the Dunes at the southern tip of lake Michigan are kind of nice.

We have been all over, we are road trippers. We love the National Parks etc. We are trying to make all of them that we can drive to. Just getting away from the office helps the soul.

I was going to go up for the Woodard deal a couple years ago until a buddie showed me a video of the year before when he went. It was like Danny said, very few older cars and mostly new stuff that are on the streets every day. Ricers, new Mustangs, Camaros , Challengers and Mini trucks. No place for this guy!

  8. I ***ume you've seen/read about our Yellowstone road trip on my thread "GRAND TOURING WITH A VINTAGE HOT ROD...".
Likely the best two weeks & nearly 3K miles I've spent on the road after having been granted a privilege to operate motor vehicles on public roads almost 40 years ago and having driven combined 1/4+ million miles with dozens of cl***ic/vintage cars since.

Well, if you were to come out west, the California Hot Rod Reunion is a good time. Then, October is when wine g****s are harvested and we celebrate with food, music and wine, on the Central Coast. The road through Big Sur is finally open, after a hell of a winter. Trips in a vintage car are always fun. Car folks are friendly folks.

I like the Florida Keys. Not a lot of car related stuff, but great fun in an old car!

Most challenging route I ever "rode" was bicycle trip around Cape Breton, east of Nova Scotia. The Cabot Trail is ~ 180 miles. Unforgettable views of the Atlantic. Might drive it after Labor day, when it's quieter. There are hot rodders in Halifax and Dartmouth, NS.

I spent 2 months in Halifax on a project with British Aerospace back in 1990. Of course, it was in January/February.

Yes Greenfield village is a great place. Henry's first ***embly line and Dearborn has a load of history of Henry's products. We went there a few times , in the 70s one time eating at a restaurant there and David Pearson's crew were in the their uniforms at the table beside us. Good old days of Nascar.

We love the black hills. I have been to Yellowstone probably 4 times. We did a giant loop from Oklahoma and hit KS, NE, SD, WY, MT, UT, CO and back home. It's one of my favorite places. I have to make myself look at other spots though.

  19. You guys going through southern Michigan might give Flyin' Brian a PM, he's involved with happenings at the Gilmore and vintage trailers. If it's happening in that part of the world, he probably knows about it.

  20. If you find your self up Central Michigan way, it might be worth while to give Ionia Hot Rod Shop a call and see if you could get a tour. Brian's screen name on here is flynbrian48.

If the Henry Ford is on your radar, you might also consider stopping at the Studebaker Museum in South Bend, IN, the Gilmore in Kalamazoo, MI, The ACD Museum and the Early Ford V8 Museum and the Natmus in Auburn, IN and see if you can round up an admission to the GM Heritage Center in Detroit too.

So many great museums, so little time ... :)

In 2016 I drove from Toronto Canada to Deuce Day on Vancouver Island. Epic drive. There were quite a few US based rodders that drove up and arrived via Port Angeles or mainland BC. Amazing scenery and an outstanding drive. Deuce Day is on again in 2019 and I'll be driving there again from somewhere.

I was hoping to do the Northern CA coastal region, but it would take me too long to get there. ai would spend the whole trip driving to and from.

  25. Might be worth a trip someday if you have time, and perhaps better yet, if time is allows, driving round-trip loop through the central California coastal route (Hwy 1 ?) one direction and mountain route (Hwy 395) to other would offer a lot of scenic (and al***ude) varieties, especially if making small side-ways excursions at different areas along the route.

We're planning a trip from SoCal to Olympic Nat'l Park and back, perhaps next summer, and expect to use different routes for each direction, not to mention trying to stay off of those boring conveyor belts known as Interstates.

A friend and I just had another great +/- 160 mile Sunday drive in the Roadster earlier this morning and although half of the trip was on those other dreadful "conveyor belts" known as Freeways, the other half up on the Hwy 2 and some other, smaller back roads more than made up for that nonsense.

I'm dying to do the whole Olympic National Park tour, but there is so much on that end of the world, I will def need 3 weeks. Maybe a retirement trip.

  28. I hear you.
I've always had a strong desire to drive/travel every part of the WOLRD (even Antarctica, Africa, etc.) in my Roadster and/or some other cool vintage cars, but unless or until I become independently wealthy enough to do it, which is likely never, I don't wish to take chances with waiting, especially when the odds of actually dying or becoming inflicted with some other health/physical impairments are commonly stacked against all of us as we age.

So, I try to enjoy road-trips/travel in smaller doses and make it somewhat priority to do at least one long(er) distance (several thousand mile/2-3 week ?) vintage car road trip annually. We also try to include our other interests, i.e. expanding our culinary, hiking, nature, live music/opera/theatre, etc. experiences and making new acquaintances/friends along the way during each trip.

I might've also mentioned it in my "Grand Touring..." thread, but my wife, before meeting me few years ago, had never been exposed to vintage cars (and still really isn't "into" them), has been overheard more than once referring to our Yellowstone trip as "an EPIC and what really made it such was the CAR"

Life is too fickle and short to wait for...., what ?
Besides, I've never heard of anyone on their dead bed having said "I wish I would've driven my _______ less" !!!

Head east to NC!!! Start in the mountains on the Blue Ridge Parkway and finish up on the Outer Banks and the Cape Hatteras National Seashore!! That's at least two more national parks for the back of your camper!! There are several west-to-east routes that would fit the bill...US 58 through southern VA from Pennington Gap to Norfolk, US 64 that spans the whole state of NC from Murphy to Manteo (576 miles), US 74 is another mountains-to-coast route from Asheville to Wilmington

And you can stop for a day in Greenville for some REAL barbecue...Eastern NC style!!!
