Rolled it outside, no leaks, took it for a short drive, extra gear feels good. Coolant fan thermostat isn't kicking the fan on. I need to remove the teflon sealant on the sensor and try it again. If I can't get that fixed I'll hard wire in a switch.

Few more pics. Got everything working, had to do some more adjustment to the shifter stops, fan works after connecting to a different power source.

Better pic of the relocated fuel pump, new filter. The bracket I rubber mounted with exhaust bushings.

Make sure to take a second look at the fuel filter seal. I've heard guys say those cheapos leak frequently. A real Fram brand housing might be more re***uring. But use a Wix cartridge in it.

So I suspect the 40 is faster than the 3w?

No kidding......even if the three window had more motor, the mechanical fuse is the early ford rear. Even the 32 sedan with the 401 Buick pulls pretty good, but I can't stand on it for the same reason.....
You can flog on the 40 pretty and everything is pretty stout. It should probably have a 9" rear.

Got about 10 miles on them but won't know till I warm them up. They seem a little on the hard side. Might be good though.

Thanks for asking, busy time at work and
I haven't kept the thread updated......,

So after all the work I got it down to the H.A.M.B. Drags unloaded, second cl*** of cars to be called, second pairing lined up against Russco , warmed up the tires, staged, planned on leaving at 2500rpm. Side stepped the clutch and Bang! And the driveshaft dropped.

Not sure if I even broke the beam!
The yoke was broke on the rear, so I loaded it up and enjoyed the day.

When I got home and unloaded the car I found that I had crumpled the axle pads, causing the pinion to rise, and that broke the yoke.

    [IMG][IMG]

So I got the brackets cut off, got heavy duty brackets from Currie, and made new lowering blocks with hardened pins, replaced the spring clamp bolts with 12.9 socket heads, everything is welded up and I'm ready to take the car to the meltdown drags in rock falls wi tomorrow.

I had made about 12-15 p***es on the car last year, so more gear, more slick, and maybe even the extra inch of lowering block have increased some forces.
Suffice to say I think the car was hooking up, A torque arm, or pinion snubber would help take some torsional force off those brackets.

Pretty happy with this. Still babying it out of the hole and it has some wheel spin through first and second.

Yeah 15.04 is pretty good for a old 40 Ford. Probably a little quicker than even when new, I suspect it's the tire's helping it[emoji23]

Ran a 12.63. Then took more air out to get more bite and broke the rear again.

First couple of p***es in the morning the track was pretty slick (a nice 67 Chevelle slapped the wall). I kept warming the tires up more and more. After the 12.80 I dropped the tire pressure, and ran the 12.63...So why not drop a little more air, do an even longer burnout, leave a little harder.....and bang!. I'll find out tomorrow when I get it on the hoist. Might be an axle, but I think it might be worse, but the 10 bolt has been the known week link so it's time to retire it and go to a nine inch 9".
What a great day though, a lot of cars and spectators, stuff was running pretty hard.

I built a torque arm for mine. Any kind of wheel hop is super hard on drive line parts.

Hope the 10 bolt isn't hurt too bad, but it sounds like now is the time to go 9in shopping....

    LOVE your little car. -Abone.

I have a roadster build thread going, and I am planning on making a torque arm for it because it has quarter elliptics on the bottom, and I was concerned that they might wrap (Malcom is running the same spring setup). Wouldn't be a bad idea on the 40 as I could remove the Cal Trac's they do hang down a little low.
My plan is to put this motor in the roadster, and the hemi in the 40.....but it's it so fun in the 40!

Got it rolled into the shop and up on the hoist after watching the Vikings lose today. The left rear axle is broke. Differential looks to be fine. I put an axle in it and keep it for a future project, and start planning a nine inch.

I know this thread is about a year old since its last post, but I finally found the photo of jack Brazier's 1940 Ford coupe that I remembered my dad having. he took this at a car show at the Me Too Shopping Center / Grocery Store in Cedar Rapids Iowa. I am guessing the year is 1962 or 63? I don't know who the guy is in this photo. Jack Brazier 40.JPG

Nope, I bet he was a plumber. Next time you need to repair a copper pipe and the ****er just WILL NOT stop dripping, jam a bread ball in there, do your soldering, take the aerator off the faucet and turn on the water to blow out the bread and off you go. Works great for pilot bearings, too......
