How many stops do you expect to average between each track change? What are you hopeful for?

should be getting around 8-10 mpg, and 100 miles is a good run between gas stops. It takes all day to go a couple hundred miles from one track to the next! what with the checkpoints, gas stops, food stops, getting lost, the interesting roads they send us on, and fixing all the cars....

 

Jim, are you worried about the gas tank blocking the cooling flow to the radiator, or are you planning to duct the air to the rad?

People ***** and complain about drag racing going down the tubes while you, essentially build a 1966 funny car to race....and to drive ON THE STREET!

Been working pretty hard on the car....now sanding the ch***is, getting ready to spray some rattle can rustoleum on it. Should have the body on for the last time in a couple days. And I might get some pistons and a crank in a few weeks, then I can start on the motor. I have most everything else I need to finish the car, just need to spend a lot of time to get it all done.

 

Paint can really make this, consider the old "Tension" scheme? seems right!

that's a neat paint job! I'm thinking of some ideas, nothing firm yet. It'll have some character when it's done, but it also might take a little while to figure out that part.

 

It needs a nod to the 60's I think, yet uniquely yours.

When I was just out of high school in the early 70's a local drag racer was running an orange "Coke Bottle" 440 Charger with Cragar S/S wheels. Looked good, but sort of plain. Then one week he showed up with something that looked like an almost completely different car. He had painted a big wide white panel all the way down each side, following the body shape but not all the way to the rockers or the peaks of the fenders. Then he had another drag racer/sign painter put the Chrysler ad theme of the time "Comin' Through" in huge swoopy 70's lettering on each side that went most of the length of the car. Followed by a bunch of speed equipment mfgrs. stickers on the fenders. The change was instant and amazing, all of a sudden it looked like a factory sponsored race car from the magazines. ...and cost him almost nothing.

 

Saw this today at a drag and show, know who I thought of?

Been kind of busy on the car, not much progress seems to have been made, though. The frame is black, the floor is getting worked on. I have been figuring out things like where exactly to put the battery, how I'm going to do the cooler lines, what plumbing I need for the fuel system, etc. And I got into the transmission...I needed to figure out what other parts I needed to order, so I cleaned up and sorted all the parts from the two donor transmissions, and I think I have it all figured out.

The floor, at the beginning of the trunk. I need a few more Clecos.

And our old dog died last night, so had some other things to take care of.

 

Jim, I have about 40 Clecos here, I'll be glad to loan you a couple of fistfulls.

 

So sorry about your dog Jim. That's always rough.

 

Most dogs are family and leave a big hole for a while. Not quite as bad if they manage to get really old and are hurting some, but never easy. Sorry for the loss. Good thing you have a project with a deadline to keep your mind on other things.

Thanks, guys. Keeping busy helps.

Nala was 14 or 15 years old, so not a surprise, but she was still active up till the end. Maybe after a while, I'll stop expecting to see her when I walk from the house to the shop.

 

Sorry about your dog, that's tough. We lost my two favorites in the past year and a half or so. Desmo (my avatar) was almost 17 when he had to be put down. We've had our latest one for almost a year now and I still find myself having to think about what his name is... I wouldn't be surprised if he thinks his name is "Des... ummmm, Ollie!".

 

My condolences on the loss of your dog, it doesn't really matter how old they are, it hurts when they die. I just got around to adopting a rescue dog last week after losing both of our dogs a couple of years ago, I recommend it when you feel the time is right!

 

I swear I still see and here my Cozmo every now and again and she's been gone 4 years. So sorry to hear of you beloved pooch p***ing away.
