Hi All, I would like to run disc brakes on the front of my 48 Ford coupe with stock rims. I was told by someone it would work if I use the metric gm caliper and bored the center hole on the stock rim to fit the F150 65 hubs. Has anyone done this or have knowledge on the subject. Thank you in advance for your replies. CPB
F150's came with disk brakes in 1965? Huh? I'm pretty sure I've seen whole kits with a 5.5" BC, but can't remember where. Start at ECI, as they make good disk brake products.
I have a disk brake kit on my 1939 Ford Coupe with the 5 on 5 1/2 circle. Uses a F-150 Rotor and big GMC caliber - as in mid 1970 Impala and pickup trucks. Have a Coluimbia 2 speed rear - this is the reason for the 5 on 5 1/2 pattern on the front original axel. An original mid 1950's 15 x 5 steel wheel that accepts the original 1940 Ford hub cap will not clear the GMC calibers on the front. I have not tried 16 x 4 rims - I want 15 inch and 6 inch wide steel rims, that will accept a 1947 Ford hub cap. I do not know if aftermarket steel rims at 15x6 for a 5 1/2 bolt pattern will clear, any one have any answers? I currently have 1974 Ford Bronco steel rims 15x6 on the front and rear. But they will not take the 1947 Ford hub cap.
While not for sale I have a pair of 15" x8" 5-1/2" pattern rims on the rear of a 32 ch***is with the original banjo rear, I'm uncertain if they are compatible with your needs however they were later factory jeep rims & yes they accept the 46 ford hub caps. Wish I could give you more info. however I purchased these at a swap meet & uncertain of year of application but could send pix & or inside diameter if of interest, you might check with your salvage or jeep parts counter.
All you have to do to the Bronco rims is weld 4 little nubs to the inner wheel to hold the early Ford caps in place. I have done this procedure before, but not to Bronco wheels; not really all that difficult!
