Can anyone tell me how to identify a canadian 60 merc meteor. Im goin to go look at one to buy tomorrow that the gentlemen describes as a 1960 meteor. I know they didnt make them in the states. what do i need to be looking for... and can anyone gives me any details on the engine specs and things. thanks
Most all Meteors were produced and sold primarily in Canada from the '50s thru the late '70s (if memory serves), so there should be lots of them up there. Mercury took on the name and sold Meteors in the states only in '62 and '63 (they were based on the Fairlane body). Due to poor sales Mercury pulled the plug and they went back and remained in Canada after that. I don't believe I've ever seen a '60 model, do you have any more pics?
Looks like a Ford body with Merc badges and some other different trim bits. That should make it easy to ID compared to other '60 Mercs.
Although the 60 Meteor is called a Mercury, it is actually a ford body with different trim, grille and tailites. It was only made in Canada, so fairly low production numbers compared with ford. The grille treatment was way nicer than the ford. Pat
Meteor is just a ford with different trim. Produced in lower numbers and for only Canada. Mercury Canada always did things differently then American mercury. Like make trucks Sent from my LM-G710 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Make sure all the trim and taillights are there. You will not have fun finding that stuff. Sent from my LM-G710 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
This car was owned by Joe Hill in NS, Canada. The car was s****ped in 2008 and I purchased all the chrome to create my 1960 Ford Starliner Meteor/Edsel mashup
