Will the compression ratio be too high with 64 cc chamber heads ? The #8 exaust valve was smashed ? There are 882 heads on there now and I want to go vortech that I have on hand also has comp 12-235-2 cam if its too high I can use .89 thick head gaskets [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

    882 heads have 76cc chambers.

The rule-of-thumb is 10cc's equals about 1 point of compression.

If you are switching to heads with 64cc chambers, you will see a gain of about 1.2 points.

You will need to know what compression ratio you started with.

What is the casting number of the heads you intend to use, because a great many folks conflate centerbolt heads ('87-'95), with Vortec ('96-end) heads? They are not the same thing, despite what a few recalcitrant folks say.

Creating that much quench with that thick of a head gasket will make it more prone to detonation and remove all benefits of using a Vortech head to begin with. Just replace the valve in your 882 head and put a fresh valve job on them and keep riding.

Actually decided to buy a set of summit 72 cc heads made by dart to be safe with the flat tops that are .020 in the bore I'm thinking the 355 will run alot better and be more daily driveable with thease heads I would like to run vortechs but they are on a 350 I had in my 78 elcamino and will only spend 100.00 more by purchasing new heads
