As this topic is back again I will add more. On the club side I have my name stamped on it. On the back I have my phone address etc. also stamped. Often I find it is far more personal than a business card.

Thanks for the input, HOTFR8. I'm just not sure that I want my phone# and address given out to a stranger that I might help out along the road. I think my name and my Alliance ***ociation with the HAMB might be just enough personal info to put out there. Let's see what others might say. Just trying to spread the gospel of Traditional Hot Rods and Customs.:)

Don,the Hamb Alliance courtesy card would be nice but for Ryan to go through the trouble to make them they would have to be more generic, individualizing them would be a huge job.

If Ryan would give his blessing for a approved design with the members name and membership number with a company he uses to print the cards then we could order them through the Hamb store.

I am aware of some on line company's that print 100 business cards for a reasonable price.

Another alternative could be just a simple card with a blank space to add the users name with a pen. HRP

Yeah, I got you, Danny. I agree that a blank space for us to put our name and/or HAMB user name would be the deal. I'm not trying to put a burden on Ryan by necessarily personalizing everybody's card. A generic card would be great, with something simple like "An Alliance Member of the HAMB/ Jalopy Journal helped you out today. Safe travels." Below that, a blank line could be where we would put our name. If in fact, it was a fellow hot-rodder (who may not be aware of the HAMB) we could add information like our phone number if we cared to do so. I do feel strongly that these should be made available to Alliance Members as a little perk and incentive for others to join up. That would of course be Ryan's decision. Just to be clear, these wouldn't just be used when we might help another motorist, but as an introduction tool if we might be chatting with someone and they indicate that they are unaware of the Jalopy Journal/HAMB.................:)..Don.

Adding your personal details would simply be your personal choice.

It seems like a blast from the past at 1st. Good idea? Maybe, but the use and ultimate message may be lost in today's society. We tend to embrace the "hoodlum" image albeit minor and harmless. We also like and emulate something that's completely lost to many, even those who were "there" in the day. I know that's a bit off from my observations of how the whole rod industry is transforming, how "billet" is mainly out and vintage is largely in. Still, we're a crumb left on the platter the whole cake was served upon.

So what does the above mean? A courtesy card in use today would have less impact than it may have had in the past. It might be slightly self-serving. Is that bad? Not necessarily. What else could we use it for might be a better thought/idea/ideal. If I had such a thing I'd tend to use it to make someone aware of "us" at a meet or show. Maybe even p*** one out at a swap meet now and then if a prospect conversed about the desire for things related to the board's topic. Actual roadside help is nearly non-existent. Insurance, law enforcement, C.O.D. (call on dad;)), and least we forget the personal dangers some are afraid of like robbery or ***ault, all quite real. Imagine stopping to help the poor lady with a flat tire, she freaks out over a "hood" stopping to help and pulls .380 on ya. Best we can do is phone it in sometimes. Extreme? Absolutely, but it only needs to happen once to be tragic.

I'm just throwing it all out there. This isn't what it used to be, but in a larger view neither is our society. Not trying to get overly political here just sharing observations. Our "courtesy" is needed more on one-to-one contacts with the hoards of folk who never heard of it. More folks to join the community, share in our cars and ideas, buy our old junk now and then, offer "new" junk to us, maybe even expose us to sources and services we didn't know were out there. Yeah, we sorta do this without cards, yet having a message sent in more than one way will always "stick" better. All in all it might be a decent idea ***uming we didn't limit the message to roadside rescues. Goodwill should have no limits.

Just my opinion, feel free to pick away at it.

I agree with everything that you have so eloquently expressed and would likely find myself only using the cards to introduce myself and the HAMB/ Jalopy Journal to either a new acquaintance or someone unaware of the website. I surely don't relish the idea of facing a .38 while only attempting to help a lady in distress!.....I may have to borrow your great line; "I'm just a crumb left on the platter the whole cake was served upon."..............That's cl***ic!:D

I think judgement prevails even I wouldn’t accept help or courtesy car from some one that looks like me. I was brought up in being skeptical about everything. I know most would accept help if it’s presented right. I like courtesy cards. You have to be street smart which I would think all of my brothers are. Thank you
