Car was only 9 years old when last ran!?. Not a Fairlane, and more than light rust in the front fenders, but the rear quarters may be good, and that's a significant plus. Overall may be better than what I started with. Unusual padded dash for any Custom model. Had clock, radio and factory heater. v-8 Automatic.........a well optioned car. I suspect the front fenders are from a fairlane, so existing hole pattern for the side trim pieces won't match (not 100% sure on that). I thought at first it may be a Desert Valley car, but surrounding property doesn't look like it. Wide block......that's funny
doesn't surprise me, these are getting really hard to find. I do know of a 300 in Colorado for sale. Totally dis***embled. Totally rust free. Comes with choice of a rebuilt 312 (not sure about ******), OR 4.6 dohc 5 speed from '04(?) Mustang Cobra. My friends wife died a few years ago and he's totally lost interest in his car hobby. I think I remember the 4.6 being supercharged, not sure. He bought a wrecked Mustang for 3500. for the drivetrain. Not sure if the wrecked Mustang is stilll around. can be had with choice of either for 6500..........hell of a deal imho being a rust free car.
Zapato. who p***ed away a few years ago was working on a 57 300 2dr. He also had a Continental MkII that was selling. I wonder what happened to them after he p***ed.
I often wondered about that also. Zap was blessed to have a number of good friends who I'm confident helped his wife out to clear out all that stuff. Yes, Zap had a '57, but I use to give him a hard time about never working on it from the day he bought it. May have been more than he could chew, or wanted to figure out all the quirks I ***ume that car must have had. Very unusual project as it was channeled. Zap wasn't too efficient with computers, so he use to email me stuff to post on the '57 forum, including a bunch of pics of that car. I think one of the holdups on it may have been that Mark II as it was taking up garage space as well as funds he needed for the '57. I miss Zapato. Great guy
let's see if this link works http://57fordsforever.com/smf/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view&id=568 yahoo....it'll open on the last pic I posted of Zapato's '57, click the "previous image" below that pic to see what a channeled '57 involves. there's a bunch of pics there his car, so just keep clicking
I met Zapato the one time to take a look at the MkII several years ago. He had it in a garage separate from the shop he kept the 57. He showed me the 57 and told me about the work he'd done on it. He also had a Shoebox. I think he had plenty of room to work on his cars. I think he wanted to sell the MkII because he wanted to focus his time on the 57. The Mk really took up a lot of room in his other garage and it was hard to walk around it. He was asking a very reasonable price for it but the car needed some rust repair in the floors that I just didn't have skills for. RIP Zapato.
