ok, so here is my Ness story, and I love to tell it. Mike rolls into town to play at the legendary Cains Ballroom, the home of Bob Wills. Anyhow, I'm kinda on first name basis with some of the family that owns/runs the place, and we often go in through the office door and shoot the **** prior tp the shows. Well Mike and his gang happen to be playin their socially distorted music that night. We roll in and ask how sound check was, which is a typically good way to guage how the show to follow will be. Well my buddy tells me they did not even do a sound check, and laughs. Instantly I am curious if they got delayed or what not. He goes on to explain that out behind the venue behind the tour bus is a 16 some odd foot enclosed trailer that you might think was full of road gear. WRONG!!! Instead Mike was out all day to bussy "antique shopping" to bother with a sound check. Turns out the crew and the band get pretty fed up with it on a regular basis, and that the trailer is chock full of antique furniture. Well, I almost could not contain myself at that point. Here it is that one of the "pioneering punk lead singers" who many have all build up on some kind of "hard core" punk pedastal is so preoccupied with antique furniture that he neglects to do a sound check at his own gig.

    PUNK ROCK MY ***!!!!

Dude, you have know idea, Mike Ness is probably way more into Customs then you could probably ever imagine. He has been for a long time. It is definetely not the latest thing for him. He is not really a hot rod guy, but he started building a 32 roadster with a flathead.

Repoguy's right...this kind of **** HAS driven the price of stuff through the roof!
Some of you guys have been doing this as long as I've been alive, and I too have greasy hair, 4" cuffs, and play in a 'billy band...Don't call me a rockabilly...I'm a greaser. I love hot rodding...always have, always will. One day I hope to be as knowledgable as the veteran members here.
Ness...well, if the guy says he built it, then he built it. That'd be like him knockin' one of us about buildin' our own rods. There's obviously someone, somewhere who knows the truth, even though we don't.
Let's not pull the "More Rodder than though" thread.

Jeez, I guess you can't be into cars and be a succesful entertainer  Somebody call Leno :D

Who cares if you do, or don't like his music. He likes cars and isn't promoting over priced luxo cars or SUVs with 24" DUBS on them.

If you wanna bash Ness for not building his own cars, then I hope to see a thread on why Bob Hirohata is gay too.

If you have a problem with someone, go tell them. Slamming them behind their back on an internet forum is kinda weak... I like Ness' music & cars and I could care less if he works on his own car, changes his own oil or flosses his teeth everyday. His decisions in life don't affect me.

I know that Mike Ness knows how to work a guitar better than many of us know how to work a torque wrench. Does that mean he should slam us if we are music enthusiasts that can't play guitar, or are beginners at playing guitar?

So, its ok to be into music, even if you're not top notch at building music? Yet, its not ok to be into cars if you're not top notch at building cars?

Ness eats and sleeps cars, has a great eye, and has learned a ton since Ive known him, he has slept on my floor for weeks and planned his time off so he could help me with his cars.

I think he is more p***ionate about customs then anyone I know.

We are good friends true, but I wouldnt ******** anyone if he didnt back it up.

    What are you talking about?

    Skipping the sound check? Punk.

Some people have antique cars AND antique furniture. Imagine that.

  22. Im not stating anything that hasn’t been said already but I think it is funny when people who don’t even know someone will stab them in the back. Before you start criticizing him, get a little more informed. He not only likes old cars but also old stuff. I know it sounds crazy, but there are a few of us around that like old stuff other than cars too. Considering that SD is pretty much HIS band, if he wants to drag a trailer around the US buying cool nostalgic stuff, so be it. If I was in his shoes, I would do the same thing. Guaranteed if you were to ever meet Ness you would walk away saying how genuine and cool he is. I have had the pleasure of meeting him on many occasions, been to his garage sale and bought stuff from him which turned into a conversation about customs. Hemi coupe, you nailed it.

Yeah Man, I guess what most people dont understand, is that he is a nice guy. He is not trying to portray something he is not. You dont have to like him, I think I am just trying to stick up for the guy because he cant do it himself. I would do the same for anyone else that I knew on here, who was getting a bad rap..

If Mike was not who he is, nobody would be so critical of everthing he does. You guys foget S.D. started a long time ago, He and his band worked hard to get were they are.If you work hard maybe you too can get what you want.
