Since it's out make sure the throwout bearing and ball stud lengths jive too. Main part of fork should just lean forward when sitting on pressure plate. https://www.hurst-drivelines.com/files/Clutch_Linkage_Installation_Tips.pdf I've also seen a muncie with the side cover put back on with one fork pin not in it's detent notch. The fork was being forced into the slider and pushing the whole cluster over. Not sure if it was ran like that but had a ton of fine metal on the magnet inside.

No, it wasn't in backwards, I guess I just put in a worn out clutch disc that was dragging the springs on the flywheel bolts, which was causing the screeching I was hearing. This clutch was an 11" which was probably one out of my dads 57 that he changed for a reason. Luckily my flywheel is setup for a 11" or 10.5" and I have the 10.5" that came out of the car when it had a small block.

What flywheel do you have? Some are made for a disc without the springs. I put an aftermarket one from a 427 Chevy in my '65 Belair and had the same marks on my disc springs.

Like I said in post #34, some flywheels require an un-dampened disc, meaning no springs. Unless you have ran across it personally, the light bulb is slow to go on.

I know what you are saying, however when I stuck my 10.5" clutch disc on the flywheel it had no issue clearing the springs.

My flywheel was a Schiefer I believe for a 427 Chevy, not a p***enger car item. My clutch was an 11" from a Chevy C30 and I had the interference I mentioned. Maybe call G-Force and ask them a question or 2.

  9. When you said in an earlier post that you had to draw the transmission in with bolts, possibly the center hub got bent while the input was aligning with the disc. Just a thought.

That disc looks shot, kaput, worn out. It's no wonder the springs came into contact?

Just got everything put back together with my 10.5" clutch tonight with no issue sliding the trans all the way into the bellhousing. I see what you're saying about the center hub being bent but the old disc shows no signs of being warped. Hopefully all goes well from here on out.

Depth perception is difficult in pictures but it appears that is the long side of the hub which should be toward the transmission. The friction material looks to be missing and the splines look rusty and dry. If the disc can't slide freely on the input shaft, it will drag on the flywheel and make it difficult to get in gear. Make sure the splines are clean and lubed.
